they are thinking about turning motorways light off at 12:eek:o clock a night to
save on energy if they do onething they should do is to but a light at the
emergency phone box's with a switch on

what do you think about that

But how would you stop them when your driving at night then ? Maybe you could have a light to light up the on switch to turn the light on to see the box, hang on I just confused myself.

Personally I prefer to drive in the light! I hate it when it is pure darkness so you are striving to see the road ahead. One wrong move and it's lights out permantently! Why dont they use some of the damn speeding ticket money they take to pay for the lighting!? I do a lot of motorway driving and prefer to do it at night, but i would also like to see!

In certain areas of the UK, the local authorities use new super-duper reflective cats eyes, instead of street lights. They are a lot quicker to install, require no maintenance, and don't use a drop of electricity. They are just as effective as street lights for highlighting the different lanes and edges of the carriageway.

Downside is, you can't see things in the road from as far away as you could with an illuminated carriageway. Prime example is when I nearly hit a badger in the road a few months back.

Still, the pro's surely outweigh the cons. If you can't see as far into the distance, then just slow down a little! lol.

With todays technology they ought to be able to be activated on and off by traffic flow

I prefer to drive on unlit motorways, its a lot more fun!

Just whack on the old full beam headlights, and dip them when someone overtakes you. The crash barrier should be at a hight so that you don't dazzle cars coming from the other way (but I dip them out of courtesy anyway).

I love driving in the dark on motorways. The only thing I hate about it is when on coming cars don't turn their beam's off and they just blind you.

Less light better for the environment:)

funny that for twenty years they left the lights on and now the traffic has increased they start turning them off ?

do u think the car tax will come down slightly ...... n o t
