with regards to digital audio which is best out of dolby digital and dts? and does it depend what the media is recorded in?
 
Very little in it I would say. Some movies have been known to sounds better in DTS and vice versa. DD data is more compressed than DTS but if you listen to both versions, most people cant tell a difference.

However, if I had to choose it would be DTS.

yeah done a bit of research and dts seems to have the edge. its only downfall is that there is not much in dts format out there especialy music.

I think you would need to be spending really serious money before you could tell the difference.
 
There's lots of articles about this and the bottom line is both formats sound very, very similar.
