I have a fairly small list of these but I can't be the only person that experiences this and would like to hear the experiences of others.

I've been stopped in Newcastle a few times by fairly well dressed people that have somehow "lost their train fare" and need to get home and could I give them some money. Strange how all of them that have asked me have Geordie accents. Last time that happened I was heading to uni so maybe they target students that might not recognise the accent.

A couple of years ago I was waiting for a bus at an interchange and from behind I heard "Scuse me... What it is, is..." I turned round ready to ask if the story culminated in me being asked for money but surprisingly he was talking to someone else. I've developed a very prickly way of dealing with these beggars and have been waiting to try that one on someone :).

A year or two earlier than than that I was heading to M&S in Newcastle and was stopped for 50p by a woman I recognised from somewhere else (distinctive and with ginger hair), which I pointed out by saying "It was a quid last time". The best bit was she took a draw of her cigarette mid-way through asking me for 50p, it was "Excuse me... ppppffftttt... could you lend me 50p?". Speaking to a few friends I think it's all she does as descriptions match.

Was talking to an ex-bouncer steroid monster in a gym and even he was getting stopped for money walking his dog at late hours. He said what chance have normal people got if they were stopping him LMAO.

Yesterday, I forgot my trainers so had to abandon my trip to the gym and went for a pint after work instead. Just left the high-street pub and some smartly dressed chap with what I think was a soft American accent said "Excuse me, can I ask how your day's been?". I looked at his tie, friend wearing a tie, both wearing jackets with emblems on the arms (is that to look official?) although I think they were part of the jackets rather than added later. I asked "What do you want?" and got some response about wanting to make people's days better or some shite like that. I suspect Jehoovers there, don't let them suck you in. Told him I didn't have time and walked off.

Earlier in the week I had to brush off some shell-suit clad smackhead in the interchange on my way to Wilko, I could see him pestering people and thought "here we go...", "Scuuuuse meeee maaaate, ahhh donnnnn't sposssse...", "Sorry, I don't have time.".

Try walking through Gateshead or Northumberland Street in Newcastle, it's like run the gauntlet. Assorted tin rattlers, "Who pays your XYZ?", compensation... I'd just read something about chuggers tactics and days later on Northumberland Street some woman with a bucket approached me with "You've dropped something." I didn't even need to look on the ground as I'm always conscious of what is where on my person and had read that exact thing in the papers earlier.

The day is not yet here where someone standing on the street can tell me something I need to know. I don't want ADSL again and I don't want to pay your six-figure charity boss salary for the two hours a week he works and I don't need compensation for anything.

They have been chased off now (there was actually a hobby bobby standing there once asking passengers if they were being bothered by anyone!) but on days where I went to the the gym I was greeted by the Daysaver ticket scroungers. Same smackhead four times a week "Finished with ya ticket mate?", "I've got a pass.". Four times every week. Sometimes there was a gang of four. Same Metro station used to house an old alchie who stopped me once and I told him I had no money, he said he just wanted the time (big clock hanging above the ticket machines) and I walked off. Over an hour later I was coming back from the gym and there he was again so I said "Half six." and walked past. Where do they sell these tickets? I used to see them scrounging and taking them off the machines at 18:30 on a Tuesday etc. and the last Metros are 23:30~00:00.

Happy Happy Joy Joy :).

I need a discreet body-worn button camera or something and I'll put this sort of stuff onto a media platform. Lots of radgies up here to make into social media stars :).

I had a recent experience in Paisley, Scotland, where a guy smelling of alcohol asked me for money and followed me into whsmith. I managed to give him the slip. Annoying.

Just had a bit of a flashback to being in my local about 16 years ago. Some tin-rattler came in and started giving me grief because I wouldn't give her any money.

No name badge on and the charity seemed somewhat sketchy. She wouldn't tell me anything about the "charity" unless I gave her £1.

Pestering me when I was a student with no income. Tried asking me if anyone in my family had died of cancer. tried all sorts of guilt-driven language on me.

Just as well I was friends with the publican and I had her thrown out. The present-day me would get her arrested for something.

I do not have to justify why I won't give someone money.

I bet her charity boss was on six figures for a two day week.

On a recent visit to Edinburgh I had to run the gauntlet between Waverley Bridge and St. Andrews bus station. I was accosted 6 times on the 100-odd yard journey. Having lived in Portugal for the past 14 years I can appear convincingly "foreign", I hit them with "desculpe, não compreendo" (whilst looking sympathetic) & they back off & wait for the next mug. One actually said "enjoy your holiday mate"!!
Unfortunately the reverse doesn't work so well here as most of them speak a bastardised American-sounding version of English (learnt from subtitled American shit on TV) and they quickly switch.

I hate that train fare scam. I must have one of those faces and always seem to be asked, I hate it but not for the begging reason.

Once out late 13 miles from home got to the train station realized id lost or had my phone lifted, train ticket was in the back of the case so was my last £20.

Asked a few people if they could loan me the ticket fair £3.60 and got blunt answers probably because of the scam i had around 80p in change. Anyway could not remember any of the numbers i could of rung for help and the taxi's wont take a fair that distance without money up front tried around 6 and gave up.

Ended up walking home pissed in unsuitable foot ware in a very light long sleeve top in January.

Not my best night out.

I bet you were glad to arrive home that time. The problem is when someone asks for money, most of the time they are just scamming people. The people who really need money for a bus fare probably ask one or two people and just give up. I remember a few years ago (in Paisley again) a guy was frantically running around asking people for money. I was curious and followed him down the street. Once he had a few quid off people, he ran into the bookies and pumped the money into the roulette machine. Once he lost the money, he repeated the process of frantically running around asking for more money.

I think the only way to avoid these buggers is to walk from A to B carrying a big bible in your hand, contantly mumbling something to yourself in Klingon, and a wide open stare that looks like a nutter hearing voices..... see how many approach you then.

I went to leeds last year on the lash.. that on its own was an experience.. but i found the homeless tramps on the streets rather than sitting there with a blanket to catch money on would instead shove a mcdonalds cup in your face for money..

Also when i was at college id always get "got 10p for't buzz" i always replied its bus and its a pound not 10p"

Are you a Southerner 😁

Me and ms were in the heart of belfast last weekend, it was around 10pm.
I went outside for smoke and use the phone, it was quick call. When i finished my call a well dressed fella came up to me and said he was “unsure where he was and lost his wallet”.
He then went onto say he needed to get to dublin on the train.
Considering this was outside the europa hotel next door to train station... before he went any further i flicked my ciggy away and told him “goodnight buddy”
Went back in to ms, within 15 mins that same fella came in to the hotel and i seen him sitting at the bar BUYING SHORTS!!!

A long story short, a couple of hours before that there was a “homeless” man wrapped in a sleeping bag, sleeping. I left literally £1:50 or £2 beside him.
A couple of hours later to experience that fooking filth trying to hit few people every few mins to buy a drink should personally be emptied.
In 39 years of my life i never experienced it.

The sad thing about my experience is, some that need help should get it.
That filth ball that stopped me will not get a second chance again with me.

Really did take me a day or two to realise what i seen.
I personally can “not” walk past a human-being lying under a shop shelter without feeling sadness on society allowing this to happen.
Need it be support or neglect thats happening to these people.
(i suspect the latar)
