I'm paying £58 a month for bband, phone line with weekend calls and a TiVo with freeview only (wife records wont get rid). I phoned them up just and said I am trying to lower my bill what can I do ? and the guy just starts friggin yackin on and on about taking the package up !!. I had to tell him to hushed a sec while I got a word in. The reason I am bringing the subject is I dropped on this last night which got me thinking about my bill:-

Virgin Media Vivid 100 Fibre Broadband + Talk Weekends - £25pm/12months plus £75 bill (Effective cost £18.75pm) Selected Postcodes - hotukdeals

And it actually made my p*ss boil to think, new customers can pay £18.75 nearly £500 a year less than I'm paying I think is disgusting.

So, is there anything I can do ?. He said if I went to 200mb I would save £2 a month ! wtf ?? or £7 a month if I drop the bb to 100mb. Would 100mb from 150mb make a sod of difference with teenagers hammering it ? or are there any ways I can scrape a better deal out of them ?. He did say 50mb would be something like £43 or £41 I cant remember but I'm not sure that would be enough with the way my lot go at it. I would leave but I can run the risk of the line getting cut if you know what I mean :)

As a follow up it might help others;-

I rang them again just and I told the guy I had a just had a chat with the missus who's at work and the previous quoted prices are still far too high and that we were going to leave as Sky and Plusnet were doing it for under £30.

The best they could do is;
100mb bb + TiVo on freeview + land line £51 a month and a £30 on off good will loyalty gesture which in theory brings it to £48.50 a month over 12 months.

The 50mb bb + TiVo on freeview + land line would be £46 with a £30 one off loyalty again £43.50 over 12 months.

The only way to get it as low as possible was to go to 50mb no box no land line at £33 with a £30 loyalty so £30.50

I said , na , (trying to call his bluff) and said "I will bell the wife when she's on her dinner but I know what she'll say,:-go with Sky or Plusnet and cancel".

Im then thinking he'll shift and lower it but he just said "Fine , sorry about that, I will leave a note on your account now, just give us a call if and when you decide to leave thanks and bye."

So I can basically save a tenner a month on what I'm on or even up it to 200mb and save £2 a month. If anyone knows a better tactic on the phone please let me know

You've will seen loads of posts on this. about telling them you're leaving. I did the same as you before xmas and could only get mine down to £40 with cashback etc (100mb bb, line rental - talk weekends) from £44 which supposedly included a £4 loyalty discount.
You MUST ring them and tell them you are cancelling, don't let the talk you out of it. I did eventually and they rang me the next day (everyone says they ring within the following few days) and offered me the same package for £29 on a 12 month contract BUT will give me that price for 18 months! I did'nt haggle with them but know people who have and have got it down further. Said the same to me about the note on the account. YOU MUST CANCEL.

Yeah cancel wait a week then have your wife sign up as a new customer and get the new customer price.

Done this a couple of times now and they hate it.
Ah right you see its only in my name but from mine and the wifes joint account. So I just ring

cancel then after its been cut ring up and join back ?. So I go without the bband for a week at home before she opens an account ?
and
@willin
the very best they could do 100mb TiVo freeview and l,line weeknd calls was £48.50, how did you get £40 ?

No mate you give them the 30 day notice over the phone that you are leaving, you don't get cut off because within a few days they will ring you and offer a much better deal. It was around xmas I was offered the £40 deal it depends what retentions are allowed to offer ring and say you want to give your 30 day notice!

yes i too fed up the slowley increaseing price hikes think i hads 3 or 4 last 12mths currentley pay 64 for mid level tv and tivo plus landline and 200 mbps been customer for 10 years and yes i know cheaper deals but i need the 200 mbps broadband for amount devices used and amount gaming etc . so i try the 30 day leaving see if works

Cracking plan I rang them , cancelled , they turned me off there and then. I'm now on hold on the phone with a "Technical Issue" no bband....no TiVo...no phone line all 3 down

The TiVo went error 7400 router flashing. The young girl was adamant it was f,,kin me !.. so I'm losing my rag and she's on that "I'm sorry but please calm down or I will hang up ".
I spent 37minutes on the phone before she sorted it. The dizzy cow put the wrong date in the system she put today's in FFS !!!!
Anyway I due to get cut 13th April and if they do I'll do without and get the missus to sign up as a new customer as Ferret said.
I'm not paying £58;a month b,locks to that

Your new package now includes:
Player TV (M) - Virgin TV V6 Box. powered by TiVo - Home Phone - VIVID 350 Optical Fibre Your new monthly bundle cost is: £44.00

i left and went to talktalk because it was 20 quid a month cheaper but after i canceled the very day the guy came to install the new phone line the virgin media called me and offered to match the price of talk talk. it was too late the line was installed. i found with virgin media even if you bargined them for a cheaper price it always creeped back up some how for this and that. so im happy enough with talktalk

on live chat in ang 18 m8 and I had Sky Sports Collection free for 3 months
They werent having any of it with me Thier tactic at cut off was them telling me ring back as deals change daily.
I said "Was thier deals yesterday ?" She said no I said Monday ? Tuesday ? Wednesday ?" She said Tuesday had a deal £45 I said "Well give me that !" She said i can't. Then we went round the block trying to get me to hang up and call back.
Anyway I've put the disconnection in and I'll go anywhere as long as I can save £20a month

i was paying 42 a month 100 internet no tv and phone line
phoned then to get it cheaper , said we can give you it a fiver cheaper , said thats crap i will like to terminate my contract ect (30 days)

phoned talktalk and set it up to be connected and they asked me if i would like to keep my virgin phone number , said yes please

at the time talktalk was on no installation fee are setup

3 days later virgin phoned me and give me a 12 month contract for £19.99 a month

give it a shot m8 as you have a 30 day cooling off period and see if talktalk is still doing the no installation fee are setup

told virgin i was just made redundant bla bla bla lol

I'm on the 30 day countdown now so hopefully they'll ring with an offer of some sort if not I will get the wife to sign up. Will she have to use another bank account ?
