My neighbor who's straight facing has got about a 500watt halogen security light motion detection on the side of his house.
its not pointing down its been turned sideways horizontal shining directly onto the front of my house.
Now I can just about live with that but the timers set to max so the moment anyone comes in out it's on for another 20minutes. This seriously lights up my house through the curtains the lot.
I've asked him about a month back if he could point it down or turn the timer down to low/min settings. He looked a bit p*ssed at me asking as though I'm a moaning cnut and said no worries but it's still the same, lighting up my house. It's even blinding when your driving off the night and CCTV useless till it's off. because his kids are in out it's never off
how do you go about getting him to do something about it ?. Like I said I asked nicely and he's done frig all.

I just don't understand some people, hes not long lived there and that light was always pointed down.Hes moved it to light up the whole of his drive but it lights up my hiuse.
Now me, I put 2 small solar ones that point down about 40watt, they go off after 20 seconds.
Confrontational some people. I would just lower it then change the timer. I'm going to be accused of been a moaning fooker but I'm the last in the row so it's only affecting me.

If it's aimed at your property you are well within your rights to demand that it should be altered/repositioned. See your neighbour one more time and if nothing is done tell them you are seeking advice as it's invading your privacy.

i find Semtex normally dose the trick, just don't use two much :)

I'm going to ask him again see what his response is. If I get no joy then it's an invite for my m8 with his telescopic 2.2 . He's a crack shot when he's ratting.

How about a couple of 1000 watt halogens aimed at his bedroom window, driven by a light-sensitive switch that turns them on every time his 500W halogen turns on. Give him a little taste of his own medicine. Or even better, how about a highly directional speaker array that shoots a distorted Milli Vanilli loop into his house whenever his light is on? If not, there's always the "air propelled lead projectile" idea from @avid. Certainly cheaper and quicker than my suggestions!

I would do this lol, I know its a bit tit for tat but if he cant be civil with his neighbours then he is obviously a idiot!
But don't waste the electric get two 50w LEDS (like 500w halogens, not as bright...).

Ask him again nicely, if he don't give him a taste of how annoying it is.

Mick

Try asking nicely, if that doesn't work give the cnut the back of your hand, have lived with a sh*t neighbour for years, hopefully death comes to call for her

On a similar note...I've recently moved into a property with a security light. It lights up the side of the house for around 20 minutes when activated, and whilst it doesn't affect our neighbours, it's a bit of a PITA for us when lit for so long.

I haven't carried out a great deal of research yet (bugger all in fact), however I'd like to reduce the time it remains active and was hoping that someone could shed some light (ha) on how to do this.

I'd attach an image of the make/model of light, but I can't be arsed.

I was wondering if it would be more interesting to keep his light on as much as possible to cost him a kWh unit every two hours.

Even rig something to set it off 24/7.

The lights have a turn dial "Timer". You can set it normally from about 10 seconds to 20 minutes. My neighbors is set its maximum it just needs turning down and slightly angling down.
The other night it was on for 4 hrs solid as kids and people coming and going were setting it off.
That's the bathroom, the frosted glass defuses abit. We don't need lights on in our bedroom and hall.

Can you not buy bathroom and bedroom blackout blinds if all else fails?. we have them and it works a treat. Only an option m8.

We have quite thick vertical blinds are curtains are rarely closed as thier a pain in the harris climbing over the couch.
His light sensor is set to min so it's acrivated well before it's gone dark. I'll give him plenty time and ask again next week or the week after and if I've I get no joy I've decided to put a 500watt LED dusk till dawn up pointing directory at he's.

Good man, now that sounds like a plan.👍

I don't know the answer to this as haven't searched it and don't know enough about photonics but...

If you have a torch and point it at another torch some distance away in a non-reflective environment does the distant torch seem dimmer?

Do photons repel photons?
