Manchester United thread

@gasman I saw the match today, and I have to say they looked the best i've seen them all season. I wonder though how much it has to do with Pogba being played the way he is now, compared to the holding position he had under Mourinho. Apart from the Bailly red card, I thought it was a dominant display and could've and should've been more. Credit where it's due, OGS has got them playing, will it last? I dont know tbh, gastrodamus can likely tell us more.

Couple of harder games to come up, but if they play the way they are, and the results keep rolling in then they could squeeze 4th.

Bah, it was only Bournemouth, mid table fodder. Only Newcastle after that, relegation fodder.

We will get our test against Spurs. Playing with total intensity from the beginning of the match seems to take its toll on us in the second half. We’ve let our fitness slip under Mourinhos compact system so I don’t think the current run of form can last unless we can hone the fitness levels fast.

I’ve the sense that was the first match you’ve watched @janobi hard not to be impressed isn’t it.

That squad is fine, just needed to go back to basics and be allowed to play with freedom. A lot of teams will get blown away by Ole’s United team but I expect we will get ran over a few times too.
Defence is still leaky and needs addressing, whether we can get anyone good enough in Jan or not might just decide our top four credentials.

Not the first match, I saw them lose a couple of times as well. But I thought I would offer a balanced opinion, as usually i'm on the other end of the spectrum. However I'm a little surprised at your candour, it makes a nice change if i'm honest gasman.

Whilst it was only Bournemouth, (Seem to be on a poor run atm), you can only beat what's in front of you. And last 3 games, you've beaten the teams in front of you, granted 2 were relegation fodder so we wont count them. You've got a hard few weeks coming up, so any momentum you can build will be useful.

I’m always honest, it’s why I upset so many people [emoji23]
Said it straight away that United fans would be expecting absolutely nothing from Ole’s appointment. Even now after such a superb start I know that not many will be expecting it to carry on.
The change in demeanour around the entire club has transpired onto the field. We’re playing higher up, Pogba is higher up, the goons haven’t been seen. Matic has been told to pass forwards and is a completely changed player. The dynamism that our forwards have always been capable of is visible now that we have Pogba there linking defence-midfield to our attacks.
This team should be pushing the top, it’s perhaps not enough for a title challenge as the defensive weaknesses are obvious. But it’s certainly not as far away as it’s shown this season under Mourinho.
Thought it would have worked out under Jose but his moping and tantrums far outweighed his managerial ability (which is a lot of pissing and moaning to get through lol). Think he needs to take a year off to reinvent himself or take the PSG job where he has no competition domestically. He was a right miserable git.
Was hilarious watching the ABU gang jump and down excitedly as Mourinho was finally sacked, only to quickly realise that it would be nothing but a positive step for United.

We were doing Ole’s at Old Trafford last night as we passed the ball about [emoji51] the gloom has lifted and the smiles have returned.

Bigger test for Olechester United tonight and as the tactics turned into St James Park the bus the reborn United team withstood a tough examination. Finally a clean sheet for Solskjaer but it was hard earned. Players looked leggy early on but the managers substitutions instantly changed the game as Lukaku scored with what must have been his first touch. Amazing really as I didn’t realise he had one lol.
Anyway.

Chelsea drawing and 12 points from 4 games for United brings the gap to the top four to 6 points.

It turned out nice again. [emoji12]

Always amazes me how a bit of dodgy scouse commentary can change people’s perception of an entire football match.

Spitty C spent the first hour trying to make out like Rafa was a tactical genius for playing a wall of 9 men in front of us. Then the master stroke of bringing on scouse Voldemort to try and snatch a 1-0 win. As soon as Ole made the two substitutes that instantly changed the game. He wasn’t heard of again. [emoji23]
Rafa instantly turned into corn beef face and Carragher was left to drive home looking for United fans to spit at.

If Couts comes back to prem the last place he will go to will be Man Utd

Because? Loyalty or some such.
My memory is saying that he faked injury, refused to play and paid money out of his own pocket to force his way out of Liverpool.
Loyal.

He might or might not have done that.
But that was to go to Barcelona.
They are a huge draw for South Americans.
Man Utd are not

From what i've read it would depend on Neymar going back to Barcelona. I cannot see that happening for a couple of reasons, but the main one being Messi. Everyone, no matter how big they are has to play 2nd fiddle to Messi whilst he's there. And Neymar certainly doesn't want to do that. At PSG he is the star attraction, ok Mbappe is there as well, but whilst in France he may be a superstar, I wouldn't say he's world renowned like Neymar (At least not yet).

Also unless Barcelona, have a buy back clause they're not going to be able to afford to buy Neymar back. It's pretty much well known that the banks prop up spanish football in Spain. I dont think they can or would sanction a bid to bring neymar back. What we talking here 200M+, Barca dont have that kind of money laying around, and even with say 100m for Coutinho, they're still going to have to find another 100m, and that's without wages for the guy. Also if there is one thing the Qatari royals dont need it's cash, they have billions upon billions, so they dont have to sell at any cost. Even with the FFP rules, I dont see them selling tbh.

Even if all of that was in place, and that is a lot of IFs/Buts and Maybe's, I honestly cannot see Man Utd bidding for Coutinho, let alone getting him. Why would he leave probably the best club team in the world, to go to a club that is struggling for top 4 football/CL in their own league. I hear the shouts that he did it to join Liverpool, in fairness he was leaving Inter Milan to join Liverpool, so it's like comparing apples and planes.

Finally, Neymar wasn't even that good at Barca, I think Barca were quite happy to sell him when they did, he hadn't really come off at their club, likely because of the earlier point (Messi). I honestly cannot see him leaving Barca in Jan or even the summer. I see Osama Dembelle leaving long before Coutinho, and I also think Coutinho will go to another very big European club, and it wont be a UK based team, more than likely Italy (Juventus) imo.

Manchester United are considering an approach for England boss Gareth Southgate as they continue to search for Jose Mourinho's permanent successor.

@gasman I've been critical of the team in the past, but today they've proved that they can mix it with the bigger boys. Whilst De Gea was likely the difference between the two, credit it where is due, OGS seems to be doing a sterling job. You need to give Dea Gea 500k a week like Sanchez and sign him up on a long term deal, I dont believe there are many better keepers in the world, nor teams that could afford to buy him. I doth my hat in respect.
