2018 World Cup Chat

4th it is.
Croatia and Belgium both decent and both dismantled England with relative ease.

Been a great World Cup and lots of thrills along the way, the memes and the coming home gifs/vids have been excellent entertainment.

Not gonna lie though.....

I’m not convinced by this young team, the midfield is boring, the front line is toothless (unless Kane fancies it) and we’ve not much in the pipeline.
I kind of agree with you but what it has in abundance is togetherness and the ability to play as a team. If Southgate could add a few better players to that squad and some how keep the spirit of teamwork he might be onto something. I think that Southgate has more than proved himself as a great manager.

Not sure who we could add to the squad, Barkley maybe but he’s more of the same, Adam Lallana [emoji23] Walcott or the Ox but again more of the same quality. Drinkwater could possibly do a job and Southgate liked Livermore at one point.
Think England do look like a good team and play with togetherness we’ve not seen for years, the trouble for us is we lack real quality in key areas of the pitch. Being so wasteful in front of goal eventually costs you and so it did in our case.
Good luck to Southgate, we can only hope a couple of these young prodigies step up a level, Lingard, Sterling, Alli, Rashford all have the potential but for now they are behind the quality that’s required to be champions.

Whilst I agree with Gasman (shame on me) that the midfield is boring and front line is toothless, I don't agree that we don't have much in the pipeline.

Maddison , Sessegnon, Phil Foden, Ryan Brewster and Ben Chilwell can all improve into the England team by the next world cup

We’ve two years to get it right at the Euros, 3 group stages, the semis and the final will be held in London so it’s going to have a bit of a home feeling for the England team.
What we really do need is to have the current crop step up a level or pray that one or two of the other youngsters [emoji121]️ develops into something extra special.

This French team is insanely efficient.

Kinda glad we didn’t make it now [emoji15]

Great final and well done to Croatia on their performance but France were outstanding.

Brilliant World Cup final, wasn’t marred by pitch invaders.

Really enjoyed this world cup, some great games and goals but ready to get back to the domestic game now, bring on the new season. :D

I have to give a big ;) to VAR in this tournament, although I am not sure it should have been used to award France a penalty in the final. In the main it cut out a whole lot of unjust decisions, and penalties were awarded for holding in the box, which eventually cut that out. Would love it to be used in Premier League (as long as its used for "clear and obvious errors" as intended.

Good idea which failed in my opinion. There to correct clear and obvious errors but was also used to award those not so clear and obvious. When VAR was handed back over to a ref who missed any infraction and then takes some time and a few looks to make his mind up there can be nothing clear and obvious about it and shouldn't be awarded.
