I have just bought a 1080p Annke 8 channel DVR with some cameras. Inside the box is the camera PSU, a four way splitter, extension cables, and then the cameras.

But there is also four others little units/boxes that have a male and female barrel jack on either end and appear to fit inline on the power cable of each camera. But what the hell are they?

My mate thinks they might be a battery backup but they feel very light and don’t feel like they’d have enough cell batteries to make up the power to anything that the camera would need.

I thought it might be some sort of noise filter like this...

Anyone know for sure? And then do you know which end to fit it? Camera, DVR end or don’t matter?

Ferrite cores most likely, to try and reduce interference.

That’s what I was thinking. Annke have just replied asking for a picture so MIGHT get a definitive answer soon. Fingers crossed.

If it is a ferrite core, show I put it camera end or DVR end or doesn’t it matter?

The best position is generally as close to the power source as possible. So if the power is supplied from the DVR, that is the best place.

That’s perfect as more room and easier to get to the DVR end. [emoji1303]

Yes mate got it it to work fine. You just have to know the smtp settings, and don’t forget to tick the ssl checkbox (think it’s ssl, part of the description is cut off) but tick that and mine worked straight away

I dabble in web design so created an smtp mailbox for it. However some email addresses aren’t smtp, they’re pop3. Might be why it’s not working.
