MOT expiry?

Morning all,

If my MOT expires on say the 24th May, does that mean it's valid on the 24th?

Cheers lads. I'm booked in for MOT next Saturday, but encase it fails, I'll need to book a day off work to sort it, and I'd rather have the friday off (which is the 25th) and didn't want to get clocked driving in on the 24th (every so often there's one of them DVLA vans on route to work. I cant afford to get clocked, im on 6 points as it is.

Would that bind you to having it fixed at that garage?? Unless you want to pay a tow charge.

Look into it @dar1437 the rules and teh test changed big time start of May. so much so that people were getting their cars tested early so they could avoid the new test.

Driving a vehicle that’s failed

You can take your vehicle away if your MOT certificate is still valid.


If your MOT has run out you can take your vehicle to:

• have the failed defects fixed
• a pre-arranged MOT test appointment

In both cases, your vehicle still needs to meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times or you can be fined.


You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

Note it doesnt say "DRIVE your vehicle away. and yr MOT must still be vaild. and must be roadworthy, well it it fails the test it aint roadworthy?

That depends on what it fails on i believe if it is down as dangerous no you carnt remove it without a transporter.

& if it ain't got a valid MOT yer Insurance is null & void too Double whammy if you get stopped or have an accident.

i'd reckon so. Garages will be rubbing their hands together.

Im just wondering if you can tow it away on a rope ?

Is the law at the moment a car with no MOT can be towed on the road by a car with an MOT ? I think thats correct unless its changed !

As long as the car is not driven it can be taken away so I reckon you're right about towing. Io do think that a lot of MOT stations/garages are gona be clapping their hands though. Im pleased where I get my car repaired cash in hand and cheaply also do my MOT.

as far as i know to tow a car which has no mot or tax all wheels have to be lifted from the road
