I have been using Ebay since the dawn of time and have a feedback score of over 2000+
But its to the point where now i don't think i can use Ebay anymore due to the sheer amount of people abusing the Buyers Protection
Here is some of the things im experiencing:

Everything you sell on Ebay must have full tracking with a signature (not just tracking it has to have a signature) otherwise the 1st thing they will do is say its not come and then you have to give them a full refund. Ebay now charges its fees on postage as they know postage prices can sometimes cost more than the product itself!

Distance selling laws has made a mockery of Ebay. Anyone can win a auction and change their mind. there is nothing to make them pay or honor the agreement to buy. So as a buyer say you want to buy a PS4 you can set up 10 snipes on 10 different auctions and then only pay for the one you won which was the cheapest and there is nothing anyone can do to make them pay for the 9 other auctions they won. Then if they do buy the PS4 they have 14 days in which they can return it for no reason what so ever. This is fine for retailers who can return it to their suppliers for repackaging but when you sell something new and sealed and then its returned sometimes without even a fricking box!!! your item is devalued significantly as its no longer new. How can that be fair?

People claim its "not as described" so that you have to pay for them to return it! yes thats right if i buy anything on ebay and within 30 days decide i don't want it anymore i can Lie and say somethings wrong with it and the seller has to pay the return postage and then give me a full refund inc postage both ways. You could make up any reason at all like the buttons stick or it has a intermittent fault that occurs every now and then, anything.

If you sell electronic items on Ebay some buyers will buy your working item and return their faulty one. Ive had this happen on many items like xboxs and Phones.
If you dont make a note of the serial numbers and IMEI numbers then expect to have their broken item returned to you in place of yours

Empty box returns. Ive had numerous items returned in a empty box. I even had a VGA card returned to me in a box with a stone in it. as long as they have tracking number thats all that counts. Ive even seen people claim to have returned an item and use a tracking number thats not even for it but for something else

Ive sold Laptops that have been returned and gutted. All the components removed and the shell returned and there was nothing i could do about it.
Ive had Xboxs returned with inside components completely removed, ive even seen people replace the insides of my working xbox with components of a faulty one. therefore keeping the serial number the same.

Ive sold items that have left working and the buyers have broke them and then claim they arrived that way. Bad flashing of firmware ect

Ive sold collections of multiple items and only half were returned

Ive had people claim things arrived damaged and that they would either make you pay to collect it or give them a huge discount to keep it thus blackmailing you
when there is nothing wrong with it at all because most people would offer a discount to avoid the hassle

It has got to the point that ebay is full of scammers and i can no longer use it

As long as ebay gets its 10% fee it doesn't give a F and is not regulated by any UK authority

I for one will avoid using it anymore

/end rant

I use too sell on FleaBay but not anymore because of this^^
I just buy stuff now

I'm with you 100% on that dude, Ebay is a joke, made more of a joke, as they don't give a toss.....

I mainly buy but do sell occasionally..

are you sure the seller has to pay the return postage?

i recently bought a VU solo remote that was suppose to be genuine and it was a clone. I contacted the seller and eBay but i couldn't get a refund unless i posted it which would of cost more than the actual price of the remote, so i didn't boder.

In the end i was stuck with a useless remote and never got my money back.

You should have reported the item as not as described and the seller has to send you a returns label if he does not then Ebay will supply a label and charge the seller for it. Once the item is returned then the seller has to give you a full refund. If he does not then Ebay will step in and refund you and recoup the money from the seller. I have had to go through this process on many occasions over the years and it does work. It can take some time but you get a full refund including postage charges. If an item is not as described or defective I always go down this route.

do i do this via paypal or eBay? the only option i had was get a refund which eBay and paypal directed me to contacting the seller.

ill have to have a look at this again as this aint the first time this has happened.

---update----
just lookin on ebay now at a few things i recently bought and when i click return it says you can print and use return postage from seller. i didnt get this when i bought the remote a few months ago. does the seller have to opt in to this or is it new?

Well, can’t compete with over 2000+ feedback, but I’ve managed 1000+ since way back and any problems I’ve had have been sorted quickly.

Maybe I’m just lucky.

The seller should send you a label but if they don’t they give the seller so many days to send the label. If you don’t receive the label by the given date then Ebay will provide the label.
I would get in touch with PayPal about the remote and explain the situation and open a case. You may be able too return the remote and claim the return postage charges with PayPal. I doubt Ebay will open a case with the amount of time that has passed.

It may be the items I sell but I've only had a couple of problems so far with 5000+ feedback on my main account and 3000+ on 3 other accounts.

I do notice that the number of problems have risen in recent months, had a few more "not received" or "not as described" than normal.

I do think that ebay are trying to get rid of smaller sellers with various policies they have in place, like having to offer free postage and a tracked option and same day dispatch, otherwise you can't get "top seller" status, and if you don't get "top seller" status your listings are not found at the top of the search, even if you are the best price etc..

Paypal just direct me to ebay. I couldnt be bodered with the trouble of trying to get a refund as it was only £12. Its just annoying the seller was able to get away with saying its a genuine remote when its not.

I think with Ebay you have 30 days from the actual delivery date to open a case. You can open a case on Paypal within 180 days of delivery. I bought a small greenhouse last November from Ebay and within a three months the the cover had several large holes in it. Because the 30 days had elapsed I could not open a case on Ebay so I open a case on Paypal. I supplied photo evidence of the holes and Paypal asked me to return the item with a trackable postal service and I got a full refund, plus the the money it cost me to return it.

im not sure is that the case with paypal anymore since ebay and paypal split cuz i can no longer find options for paypal to take care of claims. the only option i get is use ebay

Paypal has always had a Resolution Centre for all purchases not just Ebay....

Here is a transcript of a live chat i had recently on ebay as i didn't get my fees back after refunding someone who claimed an item was faulty.
You will notice how they dont give a flying F when i mention it was returned in full working order and was only trying it on to get a cheaper price.

I think if more people complained to the media about ebay then maybe things would come out about the goings on. Ebay are the biggest place to sell 2nd goods and have a strangle-hold on that market. I have just sent a message to the BBC and sent them proof of the types of things that have happened to me.

If more people did the same then maybe, just maybe, we can force ebay to wake up and listen?

If you want you can pass on your story via here, for the bbc
