In light of my PC been hacked via SW from the nzb section and £1500 been removed from my PayPal via a key logger I would like to suggest that, any nzb for apps posted up should be verified by the poster to confirm they've tried it and all safe and sound. It's no point mentioning anti virus because they will pick up any keygen or crack as a virus it needs the poster to try and test it.
More and more NZB's on the newsgroups are carrying nasty pieces of sh!t so for now I will not be using them or apps only movies

To be honest it should always be down to the user to safeguard against this sort of thing happening. Saying that it's for the poster to try everything before posting is the same as saying don't post any more apps. The only safe way is to pay for apps that you really want and even that can't always be assured.

Not going to post any more software in the NZB section @silverdale m8

Not worth the risk to the members on DW

Sorry about that again ;)

Didn't realise we still had an NZB section. Not been able to see that for months. Anyone know how to access it these days ??

You have to be a Premium Member to see the NZB section

Yeah I always thought that. Don't think I ever was a premium member but still managed to use it . Must have just got lucky !!!

Personally I don't think it's the NZB posters responsibility. It's the risk taker's responsibility, the downloader. If you choose to ignore your anti virus in order to install a crack or hacked piece of software then you should take the responsibility. I don't, I choose to believe in my anti virus software, which is also NOT cracked. Every false positive is a potential threat.

Most people who post NZB's don't actually upload the software themselves, they are just re-posting NZB's they have found elseware.

If the poster HAS uploaded the software to the newsgroups and created the NZB themselves that I would also assume they have checked it first.

If you post up an NZB and there's a crack/keygen in it every anti virus prog in this land will flag it up whether it be good or bad so what's the point of posting it up NZB's in the first place ?. I was under the assumption that it was tried and tested by the person or we could all post up willy nilly virused riddled SW.

I installed a freeware anti virus from a very reputable company and when I scanned with eset online scan it pick up the sw as a potential high risk threat.
It's a simple request to let the user say "check and verified" is that too much to ask ??

Agree spud , at the end of the day it's my fault installing I know that but I only go to places were I feel safer if you know what I mean. If you can post up anything without checking then it becomes a dangerous game of chance which I lost on. I could go on any NZB and post up hundreds but were will that get me

Tbh I would never download anything from anywhere assuming it had been checked, you take the rick when downloading/installing any hacked/cracked material

As you say "every virus prog" will flag a crack, and if you send it to virustotal.com it will also be flagged by their 30 odd virus tests.

So how is it possible to make sure something is clean.

I can understand if I was to upload something myself to the newsgroups, then make an NZB for it and post it here, it would be clean and I could say so.

But if I was just browsing around the web and found an NZB for something that I though may interest someone else, do I have to download and Install a dodgy bit of software I don't need or want, and ignore my antivirus, just to see if I get a key logger or worse, all so someone else doesn't have to take the risk.

Don't forget an NZB is NOT the software it's just a text file that tells your leeching program the right newsgroup to get the software from. Which is why so many peeps just pass along an NZB they found, and some forums have bots that post NZB's for stuff that they found indexing the newsgroups.

years gone bye i always tested all software before posting on forums but really responsobility should always lie in hands of the dounloader to double check especially these days as can trust no one

You might as well say the nzb site or group should check them all, as they were the source, instead of a dw.

I know You downloaded here, but surely you realize that with cracked programs there is always the chance it came from a dodgy place.

I did and do realise, at the end of the day it's down to the user I fully agree but I think your missing my point. What I am trying to say is, wouldn't it be better people posting up NZB's that the poster has actually tried and can confirm they are well as safe as can be be to their knowledge and says so in their post with use at your own risk. I know this won't stop the chance of infecting your device but surely it will lessen it if the poster has tried it and not been stung so to speak. Forums are based on trust and I'm sure the poster here didn't know or he wouldn't have put it up as he was unaware hence the reason I ask for a small change to posters of apps and download links nzb's etc....

I was under the impression that NZB's especially App one's were from people who'd tried it for themselves then forwarded it on not just dragged off the net and posted up.
I know what I mean and hopefully it will implemented. I got stung not for £1500 but £1700 luckily I caught it and PayPal refunded other's might no be so lucky (sounds like a kylie song)

"I know You downloaded here, but surely you realize that with cracked programs there is always the chance it came from a dodgy place."

Shouldn't the checking start with the poster ?

No poster would be stupid enough to guarantee that an app is 100% safe. They try it and have no problem (they may not have easily accessible sensitive information) then someone who has easily accessible information gets stung!!
The majority of downloading material from the internet always has and always will be a lottery. The only thing we can do is protect our equipment and safeguard sensitive information
Someone telling me that an executable is safe means nothing.

We're did I say anything about "gaurantee 100% safety" ? , I agree, nothings 100% safe, it would be no more more than an advisory message from a trusted user thats tried the app himself but on the same token use at your own digression.

I'd sooner download something from say a forum off a trusted user with years of post and feedback that had tried the app out himself rather than from a fookin popup porn website with 50 green download buttons.
Anyway, I'm beginning to think that some folk disagree because they can

Sorry to hear that mate :(
Posters just find the files and post`em
i doubt they download`em 99% of the time themselves
i don`t use`em nomore cos they are more likely a virus/corrupt/fake/key loggers etc etc

out of curiosity did you get your money back from paypal after opening a dispute?
