wii with argon do they still work?

I have a wii I have not used in years. I am not even sure which firmware it has. I know I did the 13 wire mod when I installed it. I know when I let my nephew use my wii I think he updated the wii. Now it seems my backups don't work. I don't know if this is because of the update or the DVD just isn't readable any more. Or I just have old firmware.
