As a person with limited spare time and very little will to rinse, sterilise, rinse, rinse, rinse wine bottles I'm looking for a solution whereby I can serve directly from a standard demijohn where the wine will be aged.

I can't seem to find much off the shelf and it can be a bit messy trying to pour from one :).

I was thinking of designing and making an automated bottle washer with food grade tubing and valves that would do 15 bottles at a time but it's a future project. Maybe a timer and recirculate the sterilising fluid, some kind of pump, mains water...

Too hard M8 - just age it in the demijohn (after fining etc) with a solid bung then siphon off a jug to drink :)

Hmm, maybe I could invest in something with a spout but finding something that will take 6 bottles might be difficult.

Sterilise a wine bag (out of a box) - three litres, job done :)

Camelbak! LMAO!

I was a bit dubious of things with taps, seems like almost inviting a disaster entrusting a tap, red wine and gravity.

I had heard of it being done.

Do they have a filler cap sort of arrangement?

I wonder, 5l food grade bottle and dispensing pump... Like a burger van sauce bottle. Not quite the sort of thing that would be aceptable in polite company but then again I don't have any of that.

You just carefully extract the tap and sterilise both :)

Twelve (12) photos, of a box and a bag. Ten of which being the cardboard box...

Not sure HH, I had a reminder last night of what a wine catastrophe can be like. Two demijohns got lively after topping up and bubbled up through the airlocks. I ferment in a box with a bag in it but it was all over the bubble wrap and packing bubbles.

I just can't get round the threat of a tap leak .

Many of the Wilkinson's Wine Home Brew kits include these bags to use, with the packaging box becoming the box container for the foil bag.
One other possible solution would be to drill a hole in a demi-john an inch or so from the bottom and fit a tap there, but I suspect that when the tap is opened it would disturb the sediment in the bottom of the demi-john.

The wine would be in at least one racking after fining so there shouldn't be any sediment left :).

I need something like a spout, I think I might go into production using our new 3D printer at work as no-one makes these things!

A long pouring spout and an air intake at 180 degrees to it, fits into a bung. Might have to have a play with extrusions in SolidWorks.

Ooer :(.

PLA and ABS vs food safety?

Ideas anyone?

Sorry to be a 'party-pooper' but the bag idea works fine because the bag collapses as the wine is dispensed. If you dispense from a demijohn then you'll have to drink up sharpish to avoid air tainting the wine!
