Been looking online for a while and seriously considering doing my own wine/beer/cider

The easiest recipe for wine, without buying an all in one kit seems to be Wurzels Orange Wine. Its essentially juices bought from supermarkets. Anyone tried this?


As far as kits go which are the best to go for. Noticed there are 7, 21 day and 3 month kits. Surely the 7 day ones have got to have no body what so ever have they?

And finally BEER! I assume most of you guys will use kits. Any good ones. I do like lagers and adore a Pils. Like them around the 5% mark.

Hopefully gonna still be on this ection in a years time dishing out my experiences,lol.
 
ive tried cantina 5 day kit,which was suppable after 6 days but tastes a lot better if left for a few weeks
also i made some coopers european lager about 4.5-5% but with that you need to condition it for 11 weeks :eek:
i managed upto 9 weeks without touchin it then it got supped wasnt kean on it though,could have done with more body in it,as for the beer ive not made any :(
i wouldnt mind making some cider using a kit,i might get one and get it brewing for crimbo
 
Been doing a bit of reading and "turbo cider" seems to be the one if you have no patience, lol

I dont mind waiting a few months for my wine to be ready. Do all lager kits need a long conditioning time..I assume that means leaving them in the bottle
 
i did a coopers european lager that took 3 months 2 condition, yawn. but i also do coopers cerveza , australian lager, draught ale. these you could be drinking
within 2.5 weeks. i prefer to add extra half kilo of brewing sugar then leave 2 ferment out then bottle and leave 2 condition for at least a fortnight or more depending on instructions.

tried a turbo cider with asda cherry fruit juice. i thaught it smelled rank but the women loved it.

I think I'll invest in a glass DJ to try a small batch of this soon.

Up to now I only have experience of WineWorks 7-day kits and they are alright really.

Like anything you do for yourself there is a certain sense of satisfaction or achievement I would imagine :)

dont doubt that, thing is it takes forever, its messy, & more expensive :LOL: i couldn't be bothered i would just nip out & buy a bottle, & i dont shop at lidls , just the corner shop & buy some stella

When you do the brewing it's great to taste a new batch and see if you have caught the exact taste and strength you wanted.
I used to brew wines and beers but gave up many years ago because having perfected the brews I wanted I had started brewing in bulk and had begun to drink too much and was putting on the weight so I stopped.
I recently started again with a wine kit from Wilkos and even taking into account the cost of the kit it is still slightly cheaper than buying cheap bottles of supermarket wine and once the first batch is made then you only need to buy the ingredients and not the kit so the cost drops even more.
My first attempt back is a Wilko kit for a red wine, which ended up tasting more like a rose wine but it was quite palatable and went down a treat with a meal, so I will definitely be continuing and may even consider some beer kits in preparation for the Christmas period.
 
more expensive, I think not.. but if you know where to get a good 8% beer for 34p a pint PLEASE let us all know.. and its no messier than doing an oil change on car..
 
A semi-decent win kit works out at just over £1 a bottle for a 30 bottle kit.
 
Might be a stupid question guys but can you get theses kits in a nonalcoholic version?

I like the taste of beer but could easily do without the alcohol

coopers ginger beer can be made either with or without alcohol.. prob not the type of beer u meant but it is tasty
