Web Hosting

Alright guys, thanks for all the suggestions thus far, really appreciate it.

So here's what I want to do: (from my current host's/domain owners tutorial)

Should you still wish to use another sitebuilder and hosting provider we recommend pointing your Yola-purchased domain to another provide rather than transferring away. To do this you need to access your domain settings in My Yola and edit your DNS settings. Depending on the host you're moving to, you will either need to edit the nameservers or create an A record (which your new host should provide you with). Your domain will still be hosted with Yola, and you will get a renewal reminder from us when your domain is up for renewal.

The only problem is I don't know how to do any of that lol.

I think I'm gonna go with 000webhosting as it's completely free.

Apparantly I need to edit the nameservers or create an A record on 000webhosting but I don't know how to do it and the help and tutorials section just goes round and round in circles :S

this is what the 000webhosting control panel looks like:

Cheers guys.

You either need to transfer the domain to the new hosting company or redirect on Yola - post a piccie of the Yola control panel, we should be able to pick our way through :)

Right, I think I've figured it out.

I need to change the nameserver under my domain provider (Yola) control panel to:
ns1.0fees.net
ns2.0fees.net

which is what 000webhosting want me to do.

The only problem is that the Yola control panel is asking for an IP address. Where the heck do I get that from?

screen shots are here: (see under "Name servers" sub-heading)

I can give you my username and password if that'll make it easier for you to have a gander.

Cheers again.

It will be a bit more than that but your IP addresses are:

ns1.0fees.net - 209.190.16.82
ns2.0fees.net - 207.182.130.90

If you trust me enough to take a look then PM the userID and password for BOTH control panels and I'll sort it :)

Thanks for that mate.
You have a PM :)

before you mess about though. I'm having second thoughts about what hoster to use lol.

the reason is because I've just realised that 000webhosting are now saying they don't support email. I don't absolutely need the email but I kind of like the "contact us" function on my website. Usually that comes straight to my personal email via a notification by Yola.

awardspace have the email function but they dont have website builder (not that I know how good the website builder on 000 is)

The fact that I own the domain, does that still not give me email functionality regardless? If that's the case then I'm happy to proceed with whatever is easiest.

Correct, e-mail is not supported on free accounts. However, scripted install of Wordpress is. This would make your website easier to set up and maintain rather than using Dreamweaver or whatever. A contact page will redirect e-mail to your Hotmail address - the hosting company is not involved...

You're existing site will disappear for a day or so until DNS settles down and the new one appears - I can put up a basic contact page in the meantime :)

I knew there would be a work around some how for they emails, i might be interested in this wordpress once my account expires too so i can move to a free host

Thanks for that mate.
Now that you mention Wordpress. When I first registered it gave me the option to install a ton of scripts on 000webhosting. I just declined the offer cos I didn't know what it meant. But that option is definitely there.

And yeah, temporary page sounds good. So basically, aside from the DNS business, the only other thing to do would be to rip the old website and upload it to 000webhosting?

Thanks again mate,
Really appreciate this.
