Ive just had my second ylod on my ps3 and im raging :Chainsaw:. i had an original 60gb which went about 18 months ago and got a refurb for free just before they started charging. But just put MW2 on for a few games before bed and was only in my first game (so it cant have overheated) and the picture went tits up and it shut down to the ylod :Angryfire. How much are sony charging now to fix does anybody know? It will decide if i give it a go my self or not.

this was abit ago now m8, but somebody i know got told 140 quid for another ps3, sony dint say anything about fixing it just that they would replace it with anohter ps3, but like i say it was bit ago now, but dont take that as golden as i dont want you to start fixing it your self and then someone come and say its only 50 quid or somewthing

lol thanks mate ive heard about 130 so if its that you can get a slim now for 200 so i may just do that and try fix it still to use as a bluray player. If i bugger it up then wont really matter too much. Think ill give sony a quick buzz in the morning to check, aint got time to try and fix it until the weekend anyway.

yeah definately worth ringing sony, just lay it on thick saying its second time its happened to you and stuff like that, see what happens, if you do try to fix it your self m8 let us know how it goes, if it works what you did etc , thanks

its only around a tenner to fix ylod mate if you want to sell it pm me a price ?

Just rang sony and got 2 options, get a 60gb or a 150gb and lose 4 usb ports, ps2 compatibility etc both options were £131. For an extra £100ish i can get a new slim with a years warranty. Think ill go but a new one this weekend, lucily i get paid tomorra lol. Still gonna attempt to fix this though, plus need to try and get mw2 out of the drive

i did 1 ylod using gilsays guide brillant tut , only lasted 3 months , when i followed the guide the 2nd time didnt work .pain in the arse .ended up getting a new 250 in the end

Thats the one im going to follow, got a vid to watch too so shouldnt be too hard (touch wood lol). I dont care if it only works for another few month, if i can get mw2 out without having to open drive up ill be buzzing. If only id traded in my 60gb and got a slim when they first come out lol, nevermind eh

Aye,

But its a pain in the butt to set the damn mechanism back once you have got the cd out...

quick update on this one, i stripped the whole thing down but never had a heatgun so i just cleaned the old tid off and put some fresh silver tid on as the one sony uses was sjite white stuff. I put it all back together and still getting ylod, at least i aint broke it more pmsl. Looks like im going to have to buy another, but still get a heatgun and try to reflow it. Does anybody know if the 80gb's suffer much from ylod?

Oh and the fan trick wont work as after about 1 second it goes to ylod :(

ive had one for 2+ years and no problems so far (touch wood )

what menthol said was correct even though it goes straight into ylod just keep hold of the eject button m8, should work did on mine a couple of yrs ago

got the 80 as a replacement and its still goin strong so if you can get a cheep 1 go for it

i know ur ecstatic bout getting it fixed but these guides are just a temp fix. sooner or later its gonna ylod again... if i were u i'd keep an eye out for some cheap deals on the ps3 slim and get one those... maybe trade it in at gamestation/cex (altho if the warranty seal is missing then u probably wont be able to).... i believe the 120gb slim is to be phased out for the new 160gb slim and likewise the 250gb to be replaced by the 320gb... so u might be able to pick one of the 120gb/250gb up on the cheap....

Yeah think that's what I'm going to do tbh m8 i know the new slims are due our soon so I'm hoping to pick up a 120gb on the cheap. I'm gonna keep this one downstairs to use as a bluray player only so if anyone spots a cheap deal let me know :)

Check the fan is working inside

I hade YLOD and fixed it with heatgun about 1 year ago. No probs since and I hammer it daily
