Thinking of Getting a Puppy

i'm thinking of getting a puppy but i'm not sure how my cat will react.

She's not very friendly, she doesn't get on with other cats at all, she is six years old now. We had a collie when we got her as a kitten and they got on fine, used to play together, but he is gone two years now, and i'm not sure how she would take to another dog.

She's fine with people, but as i said doesn't like other cats, kills mice and birds, and i'm a bit worried that if i got a puppy she would seriously hurt it or kill it. What do you think?
 
i think you should be OK but would be a good idea not to leave them on there own for a while, until they get use to each other, put dog in separate room to sleep.

our cat was exactlty the same, right miserable fecker , it had a temprament much akin to ba barracuss crossed with victor meldrew.

anyway we got a staffordshire bull bitch from pup , there was a bit of a standoff, cat bullying dog etc etc, but eventually the dog got quite a bit bigger and they got on great and the best thing about it is, my dog dont mind cats, she`ll go over and have a sniff but the cats frighten her more than she does them.


staffys, bring em up right, best dog in the world.
 
Get one and film them!

It'll be like a real life Tom and Jerry. :)

Yes I know Jerry is a mouse, lol.
 
If you remember that animals are very jealous creatures and don't pay more attention to the new puppy than your pussy (oooh errr ) then all should be Ok Evastar :proud:

A web / hidden cam would be good too , as i doubt puss will do anything while you are in the room.Good luck :proud:
 
Of course he's sick, he's just got over man flu. :Laugh:
 
Ever thought of getting a pup from the Dogs Trust they are all fully vacinated and you would be giving an unwanted dog a lifeline, also if things didn`t work out with the cat they would happily take it back before they both rip each other to shreads.

A friend of mine got one there and they were really helpful

I feel so sorry for this puppy, feel even sorryer for the rabbit - It will be burying it's head in shame... well in something anyway...
 
well you know honey, i want something cute and cuddly to take to bed with me :)

i guess a puppy will have to do for the time being

thanks JTH but i'm quite fond of the cat.

our next door neighbours used to have a cat and when they got a dog the cat ran away and never came back :(
