England striker Wayne Rooney has said sorry for remarks about England fans after Friday's 0-0 draw with Algeria.

Some fans booed the team off the pitch after the final whistle, prompting Rooney to say into a television camera "nice to see your home fans booing."

"I said things in the heat of the moment out of frustration of our performance and the result," he said in a Football Association statement.

"For my part I apologise for any offence caused by my actions."

Friday's goalless draw, coming after a 1-1 draw with the USA in the opening Group C game, leaves England needing a positive result from Wednesday's final game against group leaders Slovenia to progress to the knock-out stages.

Even England coach Fabio Capello has admitted to being baffled by his players' failure to perform so far at the World Cup.

"This is not the England that I know," admitted the Italian after the Algeria game.

"It is a problem because these players have trained very well. But in the two games it is not the same team that I know.

"It is the same thing I saw in that first game at Wembley when I became England manager.

"I hope in the next game we forget these two performances. On Wednesday I hope to see the England team."

Manchester United striker Rooney has been one of those failing to live up to expectation so far, with Capello admitting he did not know where his form had gone, saying "Wayne Rooney did not play like the Wayne Rooney we know."

The 24-year-old has not scored in either of the games so far, and also failed to hit the target in four appearances at the 2006 World Cup.

That apology was hollow and meaningless.... he meant it at the time and has been told to apologise.

Gerrard stood up to the plate and said that the fans had every right to react in the way they did.

Time for Shrek to listen and look up to his captain and learn a few lessons on how to conduct himself.

Seems that because he's been told to restrain himself on-field, they've forgot to tell him to restrain himself off-field.......

With friends like that who needs enemies ?
Shove it down there fukin throats roo lad

hmmmmm £5mill a year what would you say
oops i'm a daft cnut sorry for upsetting you all as i don't want my wages cut!!

Shove it shrek, its goals we want not appols....

Rooney is an England fan as well as us guys so no doubt got emotional. Everyone knows he wears his heart on his sleeve. He messed up, like no one here has made a mistake in their life. Get real guys.

The whole nation and the world put Englands hopes on Rooneys shoulder, Am I right in thinking 23 players travelled to South Africa?

And as for comments regarding Gerrard, he's always been a brown nose muppet and expectedly nothing different than for him to see what the gullible nation wanted to hear. If he got his nose out of Rafas Arse previously and now Capello Liverpool wouldnt be in the mess they're in and England wouldnt be in this mess.

Try knocking the managers door and telling him, you're being played out of position.

Its time to face facts, every tournament someone is to blame. Southgate, Waddle, Gascoigne, Beckham the list goes on. England are fucking shite, doesnt matter who the manager is doesnt matter which players are selected and where they play, simply arent good enough.

We have some of the best club teams, because of the heavy influence of foreign talent. As a country we are near awful so the sooner everyone realises that the better.

Nah we do have a good team it's just that tactics have always been wrong....honestly.....you get the tactics right with that starting 11 in midfield and up front and that team will play very well. It's just so far nobody has had the bottle to drop Fat Frank. But it's not just him. They are playing Gerrard in the wrong position too - and Rooney. And Joe Cole needs to be wide left. Probably Bentley wide right with our pacey wingers on the bench for late impact. Keep the defence largely as it is but put Dawson in for Rio and Micah for Terry on the odd occasion.

No you dont have a good team. Thats the problem. What you have is a selection of great players who cant play as a team and have not been able too for a while. I thought F C had sorted this out in the qualifiers as you played some good stuff but alas not so. England are back to the old way of not geling as a team.

Its gonna always be the side that can get it together as a team thats gonna win tournaments. In my view Englands bottle has gone in this tourny there is no confidence showing on the park esp Heskie.

Shame really as i thought they had a good chance.

Apologies I would have said starting 11 individual players but team seemed like an easier thing to type lol. Point still stands though. ;)

Also I don't disagree with what you said.....I just hope manager and player alike turn it around now.

not brown noseing its called being the captain
just because he doesnt shag other players wives/girlfriends
or snort coke
dosent mean he isnt doing what is right

now tell me how many of you manc players have walked into saf's room and tolld him what to do and how to play themm
ok i will admit there have been a few but they are not now manc players they where soon fooked off

Lets hope so m8 for the thousands that have spent their hard earned cash going to South Africa.

All banter aside its the true fans that i feel for as they are being cheated by the players and the coaching staff.

Well it's not good is it when on top of everything else they have been subjected to by the manager and the players to then be publicly lambasted for showing their displeasure at the final whistle ? Fook that lol.

Also it's interesting that Capello says it's not the England team he knows, this isn't the Capello I know! Tactically inept ?! Afraid of making big and brave decisions ?! That's not Capello.

he shud do wot the nation is thinkin...even for one half ..
sack rooney and hesky.
start with crouch and defoe ...and joe cole ...
and let the players know 2 fukkin days before kick off the stupid prick ...
no wonder players hate him..i hate him, and his dam, tatics ..i reckon he is bummin SWP cos he is shit

Yes i agree that the 2 hour thing could be a big problem.
The team should know days in advance and have time to talk and bond.
You cant mentaly prepare in 2 hours can you

It must create undue tension in the dressing room

So being the captain means being the managers puppet? So he has no responsibility to the rest of the team hes captaining or the nation who are following them. Thats a load of crap mate, it is the captain who should be the one knocking on the managers door. As thats why hes the captain in the first place, to lead the team and address any problems.

And in terms of SAF the players for most of the time have faith in his decisions, his record speaks for itself with us. By no means is he perfect but he certainly gets alot more tactics and player selection right than this current England manager.

Capello may have a decent past record with clubs, but he has proven nothing with England so far so why not go knocking on the prats door. The English team is full of a bunch of panzies too scared to upset their manager, instead sniffing coke as you suggested but brown coke out of Capellos arses the pussies.

Theres one player who has earnt my respect this world cup and he is Anelka, at least he had the balls to stand up to his manager who was getting it horribly wrong.

Yea well Anelka is a cry baby anyway, he's always crying about something. In this case he may well have probably been right, but still no one really is surprised he cried and got sent home.
If it was anyone else in French squad then i would take notice.

Well that's the thing about crying wolf eventually you're gonna be right - if indeed you are ever wrong when you do it.....as for Anelka well he has the right to his opinion BUT when you are openly calling your immediate superior a 'son of a whore' then you deserve to be fooked off. Mind you that was probably his plan after the first game lol.

So winning 9 out 10 of our Qualifiers is not good ? and a sign that he has " proven nothing with England" then :wtf:
