Not my first CC but I fancied it as I could pay it off instantly at the till and get points.

Applied in-store and a week later got the card.

However...

On the letter on which the card is attached it states that I should have already received the PIN and if not I should call a 0845 number! No PIN letter has arrived.

For something that is supposed to cost me £0 I'm not phoning any toll line even on my employers' phone bill, under principles. The card activation line is 0800!

Anyone else get this? I'm cynical enough to believe it is on purpose to generate calls.

Ombudsman please...

Yeah, that happened to me, I had to phone the 0845 (tried to find alternative on saynoto0870.com but no luck). I does make you wonder whether they do that to generate calls.

Re: M&S MasterCard

isnt 0845 a local call ?

Re: M&S MasterCard

Anyone else?

What struck me as strange was that it seemed "too convenient" for there to be a toll line to call. This is not my first card and the others are different but I've never seen this "handy" number to call. "Oh! Gosh! I have not received my PIN, I shall call this number to get it...".

Who do I complain to? Ofcom?

isnt 0845 a local call ?

It is but they will probably keep me on for half an hour.

Ofcom doesn't seem to have a section to complain about this.

Lol, yes it is.

"Calling an 0845 number costs 2p per minute daytime, and 0.5ppm at all other times when called from a BT landline. Other networks, including calls from mobiles may vary."

Relax. Give them a ring.

Shan't!

I'd sooner call the card activation line and have them cancel it and reapply until I get my PIN. I've better things to do than hang on hold.

It doesn't seem like much of a moneyspinner for them.

Good job I have lots of tinfoil on my sandwiches, I need a new hat.

Not Ofcom, but phonepayplus
PhonepayPlus is the organisation that regulates phone-paid services in the UK
