Up ya arse!
Have some guys in redoing my drive so I point them towards the cable and telephone cables showing them where they are and to be careful. A minute after saying this the doorbell rings, I think we've cut through the cables, can you check, yep no phone and no TV. Go outside and sure enough the digger has clean cut both cables. :(

Called out the cable people, guy arrives takes a look has a laugh and says sorry but this isn't a fault as the install team will need to pull new cables through but they aren't available till the first week in September. Looked at the engineer, he was deadly serious so I ask him if he can splice the cables together. Shouldn't really he says but he'll do it and then asks me to call to book an install to re-pull new cables. Just spoke to the install team and they now tell me as the fault has been fixed they won't re-pull new cables until it goes wrong again.

So onto the question, will the re-splice cause any probs, at the mo both the TV and phone are fine but I suppose it's only a matter of time before water gets in.

then get some silicone over the joint before the cable's covered over in the driveway m8--------the only problem i can see is a slight reduction in signal because of the joint

hi m8

i had a splice job repair about 4/5 yrs ago and have seen no noticeable difference in performance tbh ....for now at least

water wont get in the f-conectors they use are water tight
the join them with a barrel connector this is ok

my dad had a splice about 10 years ago and all has been fine since then so i wouldnt worry, and to the previous post asking for money from vm why? they havent done anything wrong, the engineer did wat was asked of him and the builders are at fault.

I think I'd double wrap it with self amalgamating tape to keep it water tight.
I'd also think about laying a small duct down (ie 25mm pvc conduit) before the drive is finished. If the joint does go faulty in time to come and needs a re-pull, it will save your new drive being dug up again ;)

good advice curly but i am willing to bet the rest of the cable was never ducted anyway whic is why the cable was caught by the digger so the rest is proberly un pullable!

It will be ducted in the street to the boundry of his property.
As you say it probably won't be ducted from the boundry to the house.
I'm suggesting laying a duct from the house to where the cable goes into the street duct.

Mine comes right up the middle of my lawn!!
They made a slit with a spade and simply stuffed the cable in it!!

mine was damaged at the point where they split of to each house, they couldnt gain entry to my property so they just put there connectors on just before it entered my house, this was last month. i phoned today to say i need the cable moving and replacing as im having a small extension and i want it in the right place. the woman on the phone said someone will be round on saturday between 0800-1300 to replace the cable and put it where i want it. and mine comes through my lawn too as curly says, about 2 inches below the grass.

being one of the guys who replace the cable, best option. run your own ducting from the "T" (street) to the omni (brown box)
this way in 3 years time when you have us out to replace it coz the phone line is shorting out, we wont rip your driveway up.

Well the joined cable is still running fine and I didn't have the cable buried in the end, not worth the risk, I'll get it tacked to the wall so replacing it should be easy peasy. :)

Hi
This sounds like good advice but a bit late
Good idea for anyone thinking of doing it in the future
Also if large enough it could be used again and again till full
(fibre-optic coming soon)
Iamateaf why didnt you let em bury it?
If there was a prob then get em to run on the wall
Much neater unseen
