from BT site:

"BT Vision now brings you FREE Setanta Sports. Our great on demand digital TV service is available exclusively to BT Total Broadband customers Option3. The Value Pack gives you unlimited viewing of all programmes in our TV, TV Replay, Music and Kids' packs. A one-off viewing card fee of £10 applies.

This season Setanta Sports brings you LIVE coverage from every round of the FA Cup, crucial home nations World Cup qualifiers and the Community Shield. You can also enjoy the usual 46 great Barclays Premier League matches, 60 Clydesdale Bank Premier League games, plus a whole range of other sports".

excellent value for those with BT Vision thinks I,additionally Vision are also bringing out HD via download in the coming months Aug/Sept.

S** are now beginning to get a run for there money also you can optout as when you wish unlike other providers!

well got Sultana card for FREE (apart £10 initial payment admin probably) also get Picturebox , Sports (football, motogp, golf etc VOD) along with TV Replay, 4OD,Warnerbos Telly, HBO Telly, Discovery ,Nat Graphic, and few others for £14 a month (Bronze Package) and can only say well impressed especially when I can watch TV at my choosing.

Having had the Vision PVR for a whileall i can say it's a decent piece of kit for what it cost. (Free if suscriber tp BT Opt3 BB)

so mate, does this option 3 package also include like a landline phone package, i.e - free calls to other landlines 24/7 and maybe even free calls to america and so on ?

p.s
and whats the total monthly charge mate ?

p.p.s
what tv is actually getting piped from bt vision ?? forget the freeview part, i guess the box has an aerial input to receive freeview just the same as any freeview box ?? what iam on about though is, what do bt vision actually supply apart from on demand movies chargable at £3.50 a shot i may add, what apart from on demand do they offer ?? is it basically just a box your paying for that can record and pause live freeview tv ? same as loads of freeview recievers nowdays.

reason why i ask that last question is that i know for a fact that theres no way bt can provide live current/constant streaming tv fullscreen picture in perfect detail onto a normal telly, thier phonelines arent fast enough to be able to handle that unless in one of the very few locations in britain that has mega fast adsl, most of the population dont unfortunatley.

Free evening and weekend calls as standard for any BT customer willing to commit to a 12 month contract (as you'd have to with a broadband contract anyway) - anytime calls would be £4.95 p/m.

Free calls to America, Option 3 gives you get VoIP minutes (as the hub phone can be used as a VoIP handset as well as a DECT phone) but I don't know if you can use them internationally.

Option 3 = £24.99 p/m for bb and phone (and vision if you choose to have it) - not the cheapest. Extras like friends and family, 24/7 free landline calls etc are extra.

As you summised on demand is downloaded. So is the EPG, one of the main reasons the why people want to hack the vision box. Scheduled recording is 'backed up' to BT's servers.

Channels are pulled off the aerial feed.

The box is free provided you subscribe to a viewing package.

(NB the deal earlier in the year was better, where anyone subscribing to op 3 could get one for free.)

Tiscali manage it with Tiscali TV. No aerial connection, everything down the same copper wire that BT use. Its only pulling down the station you're watching/recording, but it can be done.

BT just chose to utilise the freeview signal. It has the advantage of still being able to use it as a freeview box/PVR when the exchange goes down/slow during peak hours, but the disadvantage of that you still need to live in a freeview receiving area.

so all in all, vision is just an on demand player ? if so, for my use its not worth the hassle, unless of course its hacked though, lol.

talking of hacking vision, has anyone even attempted it yet ?

PVR, VoD and upscaling freeview; but you need a vision line before any of these features can be used (even just as a freeview box).

ISO-mick is trying to free the freeview and PVR sides from needing a BT line, he's got a thread in one of the freeview rooms here. Last I heard he was after someone that knew a fair bit about C#. Other would be vision hackers are trying to get linux on the box to enable the same features.

The VoD/packages side will never be hacked. You need a vision enabled line and the correct package subscription associated with that line before BT will even send the data. The best you could hope for is the ability to rip VoD downloads from the hard disc (this may already be possible, but I've not looked into it as I don't subscribe to any of the packages).

The only hack anyone has had success with is upgrading the hard drive to a larger capacity one.

i looked at tiscali to see what you were on about and yes your right enough, they appear to be showing live stuff, and also have sky sports packages and everything, hmmmmm, far more impressive than bt vision i thinks, and all for 24.99quid, thats talk unlimited fone and also free calls to international numbers, up to 8mb BB, and of course the tv box pack.
