In my teens I was into CB radios, I found a site that has a few pictures of some of my old 'rigs'.

I wonder if anyone else was into them?

This was my 1st ever CB, it's a HAM International Puma, it was considered a top piece of kit in it's day.

Then I had a smashing little Rotel 220, very simple box but a great radio.

Then I was unfortunate enough to get one of these pieces of crap given to me, an Amstrad 901, ther was no need to switch channels with this thing as all the channels bled into each other, lol

I also had a Eurosonic, but I only had it for a few weeks before it died on me.

My shiniest CB was the Binatone 5 Star, it looked lovelly but performance wasn't great. I also had a wee Midland CB, but not sure of the model, the thing was tiny.

That completes my Show and Tell for today.

10-4 good buddy.

My big bro had one and let me use it now and again.

going for a 10-100 pal so 10-65

19 a roger.

I used to be on the CB about 12 years ago. My handle funnily enough was earwig.

I had a few rigs a Rotel, President Lincoln and some others. I also had "side band" so got the extra 40 channels.

I had a few different aerials too, Sigma 4 and a Amtron 99.

I also had some great fun with my Discone aerial for my scanner too, used to be able to pick up mobile phone conversations as well as police, ambulance and fire service.

lol, I never fully understood the need for the 10 codes, why didn't people just say what they wanted to say, lol, 10 codes are the TXT SPK of the 70's-80's :)

I used to have a huge Silver Rod antenna, it was about 30 foot in length and I had it bolted onto my chimney, I could reach Mars with it ;)

Anyone remember the 'skip' when all of a sudden we'd start hearing American truckers in the Nevada desert etc, it was something to do with atmospheric conditions being just right for the radio waves to be bounced from one country to another, it was pretty cool.

Only one I ever heard of was 10-4...lol, but google is my friend and I had to add something that was interesting.....:proud:

Oh I do remember saying breaker breaker...whatever that was.

I was into cb from 79 till the late 90's
I'm a ham now and have been since 93 did my morse in 99 just before they did away with it.

Had loads of rigs but my favourite was the stalker IV (if you took off the black front it had a fake wood effect) had to many to list but here are a few

cobra 148 gtl
ham international jumbo mk II (Looked great but bleed over was chronic)
superstar 360
harrier hand held
realistic handheld
and loads of others.

Still got a limited edition golden eagle but don't have it wired up as it's more suited to a valve set.

My present ham rigs are a yaesu ft817 and a yaesu ft897
best looking radio I had was the kenwood ts2000 got one the week they were released but had some magor bugs so got shot of it, love the yaesu's.

i kept my old aunty mary in the shed, about ten years ago, i thought id get it out and try it, wouldnt u just know it, the shed leaked in that spot, rusted to f....,. had some good fun on that old rig, good mems,.

I used to have a President Lincoln on a Amtron 99, loved that kit :) was wicked.

LoL, yep...had some good times on the chicken box.

Had a few eyeballs in Polo Mint City, ran conveys with me and my mates into Glasgow.

I can't remember exactly what type of kit I had, I'm pretty sure it was a Ham International Viking, with a mag mount to fix the whip to the boot.

It was great, then it became legal, then it sucked :(

One of my mates used to walk about our scheme with his CB & a battery inside a biscuit tin which had shoulder straps fitted, and an antenna fixed on to the side.

Had a 23 channell midland with usb lsb and a mobile earial on the roof think it was a dvd 27or somethink like that .It was a bugger to swar in lol. then moved to a flat and got a ham jumbo fully modded had a silver rod on the roof of a 22 storie block of flats.every 1 in a ten mile radius new when i keyed the mike. but as sed b4 they were horrible for bleed over
AH the good old days !

Once it became legal it did loose a lot of it's appeal, but I take pride in never owning a licence - did anyone??

Me and my mate (we were about 16 at the time) loaded his CB which had access to both AM and FM (AM was/is illegal) into a wheel-barrow along with a car battery and a 'burner' (basically an illegal signal amplifier), we screwed a mag-mount onto the lip of the barrow and went out 'burning rubber' and 'eyeballing', it was about 2am in the morning and the Police stopped us on a country road, the two coppers were pissing themself laughing and they radioed another car to come have a look at us. :)

One of the coppers knew his stuff and he recognised the illegal amplifier and spotted that the rig could go onto AM and he told us so, but he just told us to take care and head home. :)

RE: HAM's and bleed-over...I bought my HAM Puma 2nd hand and it had been premoddified with all sorts of extra channels and filters, it suffered from zero bleeding and had about 400 channels - 360 of which had no one on them coz they were either AM or Side-Band.

Yep i had one, did you ever talk to joe charlie chan from airdrie..

Name is very familiar mate :)

Didn't that guy LIVE on the CB?

I'm sure he was never off it.

Infact, I may be wrong, but I think I may have gotten my Amstrad from him.

i got into cb about 79 and used it regularly till i got married in 85 had a lot of rigs but the best 1 i had was an audioline 341 with a comtell 444 ariel about 27ft high the same as a sigma4, for the sideband rigs a nato 2000 or cobra was the best i found with a small burner for the late nights, i coudnt use it in the day as it used to play havock with the neighbours tellys lol.

i remember well my friend lol

first ever rig was
RotelRVC230cb15.jpg

president_lincoln.jpg

man mint, i was on them every night, had my 5 tone roger bleep fitted and was on the thing traveling around the country side and that and meeting people in the woods and that, this was before "dogging" was bloody invented, now a days saying that too people will get you a bad name.....

still, CB days were the best ever! you could arrange a football match within 15 minutes be at a spare bit of land and start playing footy....also having a CB was like having AA road side assistance, when you ran out of petrol as you just about nearly did all the time back in the day when petrol gages were petrol gages they came in really handy......quality!

i had a 100 watt burner that i used to sit and bleed over the top of everyone for miles and miles, always hitting people's back walls no matter what channel i was on....qaulity.....loved the summer you could pick up people from dorset and the isle of white.....mint !

audioline341cb23.jpg

pmsl i had the amstrad and had a car battery rigged up in my bedroom with the car magnet aerial hanging out my window.

roger roger 10 4 rubber dick/////whats ya handle m8 lol
