Wouldn't you like to know?
Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he will remain at Manchester United for another season.

In the longest running transfer saga of the summer, the Red Devils winger had fluctuated between his desire to remain at Old Trafford and fulfilling his dream of playing for Real Madird.

United had always insisted that the Portugal international was not for sale, but Real have a history of getting what they want.

However, the 23-year-old appears to have brought an end to the endless speculation surrounding his future by stating his intentions to remain in England for the 2008/09 campaign.

"I will remain with Manchester United for at least another year," Ronaldo told Portuguese newspaper Publico.

Dedication

He goes on to praise United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who flew to Portugal in the aftermath of Euro 2008 to hold clear-the-air discussions with his enigmatic playmaker.

"Sir Alex Ferguson heard my arguments, I heard his and, in fact, it was settled that the best for both parties would be for me to stay," he added.

"Therefore, I can confirm that, next season, I will play for Manchester United.

"Before rumours emerge saying that I will play against my will, I want to make this clear - whoever says or writes that is lying.

"I will play for Manchester with all my heart and soul. I will fight and honour that shirt with the same commitment and dedication as always."

Controversy

Ronaldo also accepted full responsibility for failing to stop the constant rumours from spiralling out of control.

"I was responsible for all this controversy," he said.

"I was the one who publicly expressed my desire to go to Real Madrid. I ended up being, even involuntarily, responsible for the poor relationship between the two clubs."

Desire

While United will be pleased to here their prized asset committing himself to the club, Ronaldo went on to admit that he maintains his dream of playing for Real at some stage in the future.

He explained: "I knew Real Madrid were interested in signing me and that they had allegedly made a very high offer to Manchester United.

"My desire was, for some time, that Manchester had accepted my transfer to Madrid.

"Saying otherwise would be to trick people and my own consciousness."

Positive

In the wake of the news that Ronaldo will be staying under his tuition next season, Ferguson was understandably in upbeat mood.

"It's very positive and we welcome him back here this week," the United boss told MUTV.

"He's always been happy here. He's always been treated properly. I have a great relationship with the boy and I think what we have to do is put this situation to bed."

hmmmm... he's gonna have to play really well in order to get fans back on to his side. If he had come out with this earlier everything would have been sorted a long time ago..

Lets be honest about this....he is only staying because Real won't pay the money for him. He is not in any way dedicated to Man Utd otherwise Fergie wouldnt have had to fly over and coax him to stay because he already had a contract.

I think your right nl86...he will need to do something special to get the fans on his side again....by special I mean score a goal...Utd fans will then forget about his antics.

He is a slimeball and always will be....but he is a truely gifted footballer aswell.

i wont forgot what hes done this summer he only stayed cos real wont pay up like jaffa said tbh i stopped caring whether he was staying or not. i will cheer his goals only for the team cant be helped but i cant stand him now. its clear he doesnt wanna be at old trafford and dont want a player who doesnt wanna be there

he'll get a lot of stick..
but i am glad he is stayin..

it would be a step down if he moved the Madrid now anyway...

he will have2 play special and with all his heart 2 get the fans back on his side

He is an arsehole... man u made him the player and gave him the medals and he treats them like this.

I had no respect for him because of the way he condoned himself on the pitch (that's a whole other post lol and if you search you will find loads ;)) if you talked about skill and ability there is only messi that i would class as close.

But if you talked about professionalism and Loyalty THE BIG WORD HERE he is lower than low!

You will be chanting his name after a few goals that is football and you want your team to win no matter what... but from my point of view i will only ever sing the greedy BAYOR song because we got held to ransom by another arsehole!

I can actually understand players leaving arsenal but man u has just won the best competition in the world plus there league gave this fella the podium he stands on and he repays his fans like this lol.

I don't like man u (can't stand them lol) but i don't like it when it happens to my team so there must be some understanding even from a rival fan.

But i would of flown that greedy bastard over to AC milan and bit there fooking hands off for 30 million greedy bayor (easy jet though :)) and sorry to go on but this arsewipe then went on to say live on tv he dont have internet in africa or papers or fooking TV LMFAO... ok i know its africa but you was earning 35 grand a week that could buy a fooking internet even in africa you lieing greedy tosspot and even worse is you said you was the replacement for henry when you could not lace his fucking boots.

sorry went off topic but these fuckers should **** off to spain, italy where they can be as sneaky as the fucking countrymen!

totally agree with everything there footballers dont know nothing about loyalty no more except a good few.
all i can say is if they dont wanna serve the teams that made them what they are they aint worth keeping i think. hopefully one day some footballers will see past the money and actually put football, contracts & loyalty first
