Cheapest place for decent DL Disks?

Just used my last verb...I would say around 20 out of the 25 disks burnt fine...Where is the cheapest place you guys get verbs from or has anyone found some cheaper media that works just as well.....Seems lately the quality of DL Disks has been really inconsistent...

Altho hopefully new dash with hdd loading will make verbs a thing of the past

Nothing will work as reliably as a Verb, you get what you pay for.

But plenty of us are using budget discs and getting great results, most popular are the Aone discs which are dirt cheap, but be warned, your mileage may vary.

Personally I use them all the time and they work in my own Samsung drive aswell as my bro-in-laws Hitachi and Son-in-Laws Benq.

They work in my Samsung MS25, my cousins Hitachi 59 I think and my mates Hitachi 78, I don't know anyone with a BenQ so I can't say but I reckon they'd be fine in them too.

I might buy a 10 pack of Aones and a 10 pack of Verbs and see how they compare...I'm sure someone said cheaper media will fook your laser quicker tho...Is that the case?

The laser costs under 7 quid so the saving you make on the discs pays for the laser and more. You shouldn't have to worry about your laser for a couple of years.

I didnt have any joy with the Aones I bought from ebuyer recently full face printable ones.
Havent even managed a succesful burn so far out of 7 discs from a disc 10 spindle all have failed burning at 2.4 x on 2 different PC's with different DVD Dl writers.
1 is a Pioneer 111D the other an Optiarc 7510A both with latest Firmware.. Some fail at the layer break changeover others wont even start a burn "power calibration error".
What is clear though is that Aones use FAKED Ricoh dye with a dodgy MID stamper, theres a few posts about these discs on cdfreaks generally acknowledgeed that they are poor quality media.
However if they work well for you I dont think they can be beaten on price, just dont back on your backups being readable for a long time or dont burn any valuable data to them.
I've used Ri-Disc 2.4 x DL's CMC dye with good success only 1 failed from a pack of 10, this may have been the image i burnt though because it burnt succesfully and verfied fine just wouldnt boot in the xbox360 maybe it wasnt properly stealthed hence no boot with ixtreme 1.4.
Buy a pack of Aones and a pack of verbs and if you get successful burns of both run a PI/PO error scan I think nero can do this and compare your results, you'll probably find a high error rate on the Aones especially around the layer break.

Still using a 1st Generation 360 with the original Samsung MS25 drive, I've always used dirt cheap discs and my drive is still reading them no problem.

Like Sylar says, the lasers are dirt cheap anyway.

Verbs my Arse

I use a Pioneer 115 these days for my backups, but previously I've used the Pioneer 110, 111 and 112, they all burned Aones no problem - except for my two dodgy 112's that SVP flogged me.

I used Blue face Ridisc's 2.4x writable, seemed to be quite good CMC dye. Avoid anything with Ricoh D01 dye most are fakes. The original Ricoh branded discs are very good though, the dye gets a unfair bad rep due to all the fake MID stamped discs doing the rounds.
Stick to verbs if you want want guaranteed quality prefrably the singapore made ones the india made moser baer ones arent as good.

I use aones, burn at 4 speed on my pioneer, never had a prob, i have verbs if required, get my full face aones from svp, think I pay around £15 for 40 then add on a couple of quid for pnp, they cost around 3.85 or something, so you could get 50 for under £20 then add about £3 or something depending on what type pf shipping you want.

It sounds like the problem is with your writer(s), did you try both writers in the other pc, was any other device connected on that IDE channel. You mentioned that you recieved a power calibration error, I used to have the same error with my old 111D when it tried to burn DL disks, I'd get invalid write sense with the address of the sector that it had problems writing to before it failed, eventually it started to fail on single layer disks too. I upgraded to a 112D and a got a 115D too, I use the 112D for the Wii single layer stuff and the 115D for all DL burns. I've tried the Aones in both drives and they work fine, both drives have been updated to the latest firmware.

Try removing any other devices that may be taxing your PSU (may help for the power calibration error), set the drive as Master and don't have anything else connected to that IDE channel, give that a shot. If you're still having problems I'd suggest trying a new burner, yours may be on it's way out.
