I currently have a Epson C64 printer but am getting fed up having to constantly clean the heads. I dont use it an excessive amount but want something more reliable and that requires less cleaning. I just need a basic printer primarily for printing letters and the odd printout from the web. I cant justify spending a lot of money for the amount I use a printer so am only prepared to spend up to £40.

So please let me have your suggestions.

Rob.

Do you need colour, if not a mono laser can be had for around £50.

Dare I suggest another epson as they tend to have the cheaper cartridges anyway.

But it might be down to the fact that you printer gets little use that you have to keep cleaning the heads. Due to modern heating and dry air the heads tend to dry out so suggest whatever choice you make make a point of printing, even if its only a couple of lines of test print, B&W + Colour at least once a week.

i use the epson r265

it prints onto cd/dvd as well with excellent quality easy to use as well

i also got myself a continious ink system and its damn good and the ink lasts a lot longer well worth the money.

I've just bought an HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-one, for £29.99 at Argos, comes with black and colour ink, no USB cable though.

Cheers

I was contemplating a mono laser printer. I just seen an ad in the Sun for a Brother Mono Laser at Staples half price at around £45. I would have to look and see how much a toner would be though. That seems to be the problem though I don't use my printer enough. I have tried to use it more regurlarly even for printing out things I don't need to just to use it. Is it worth trying a head cleaning kit to flush the heads through?

Thanks for the replies though.

Rob.

Never used a head flushing kit, might work but you will probably be throwing good money away. Once the heads are gone they are not worth bothering.

On the printing side and to save you this hassle again it really is just worth the effort to print a few lines once a week, if you don't then you'll be forever in the buying new printer mode.

Which I why I recommended looking at a laser. it can sit there for several months unused and it won't matter. In fact my parents had the same problem, they print maybe 100 pages a year. Found an ex-company lasjer 6L for £25 of flea bay two years ago and still going strong.

Have to disagree with the just sitting there as I have looked at loads of lasers over the past and thay all had the same problem cuased by central heating and non use.
