There's something very special about the sound of pipes, they seem to stir emotions in people (usually rage if they are played badly, lol)

The droning high pitch combined with the natural unamplified sound seems to have the power to make grown men weep.

I love the pipes when played well.

I detest it when they use them to beg for money though.
I've seen beggars playing the pipes in Amsterdam, Berlin & Toronto.
I'll listen to them all day, but they wouldn't get one sniff at what's in my wallet :)

Best 'pipes story I heard was one my brother told me...

His m8 was at Ayres rock in Australia blasting out some lungfulls of pipe music.
The surrounding crowd of Japanese were going daft taking pictures & videoing him.

After he had finished...One wee Scottish bloke wandered out of the crowd and said to him quietly, with a smile on his face...
"Listen pal...I'm probably the only other person on the tour group that recognises that tune...I may be catholic, but I still know the sash when I hear it" :)
