would i not need a new bumper as ithas a crease in it? or have you thoughtof that? i no the wing will get that little knock knocked out but the smaller panel will need replacing. cheers for replying

Sorry but don't mean to hijack this thread, but how about to get a little bubbling out of one of the rear arches on a Focus?

paint bubbling?

thats expensive as the whole bumper needs to be resprayed. (stripped of te colour prepared then resprayed).

@manutd4life, is the paint bubbling away or is that bubbly dents on the bumper? cos that might actually cost more. (250 on its own).

the dent will just be pulled out and smoothed over mate

well the paint on the bumper is falling off and the grey line is the actually dent in the plastic/fibreglass. i thought because of the bumper aint a metal material it wont be able to be repaired.i no it can be resprayed but can the crease be actually knocked out in the bumper? i may be wrong.

these bumpers (wrong title really) are made to lesson the impact but once in a crash they need to be replaced ur looking at £500 for the bumper the other panel is about £50- £100
then u have to add in labour + removing bumper and then replacing with new brackets
with the bumper being hit it fooks the brackets up
in the region of £48 - £60
ur looking at a bill of £1000
plus or minus a few ££££££'s
labours about £60 per hr

he hit me, only problem is, i need a car aswell to replace it while its in the garage unless its weekend and i aint working. so unless he pays me for inconveince and the likes i may go through insurance.

expect your cat to be written off
The assessor will look @ the cost of the repair in an approved garage done to insurance standards
this will take it over the % there prepared to pay repair value to car value
you can buy a 2002 s40 on autotrader for 2k and 2004 for 500 more !!!
so unless its a low miles 04 one owner fully loaded mint car its close to being written off
my advice is unless you have told the insurance Do not !! thats assuming ya don't want a claim on your file
all be it non fault it will still cost ya i can assure ya of that ..
then ya will have to find a new car , theres gona be no courtesy car if they write it off ,you will prob stuggle getting a new car for the same dough
Most insurance company's now pay out what they can buy a like for like car for...
Whist i know theres cars on there for 5k etc they are also cars for 1/2 that and you will struggle to get the top end price ...

Do ya like the car ? do ya wan keep it ? do ya want a claim on your file ?

thx for advice, i was goin to sell the car after i had finished my house as it is burning oil, i got it at bargain with leather heated seats, cruise control, climate control etc. plus you can still drive it if it has been written off though cant you? as long as i register it or something? if it gets written off will i get the money it was worth? if i do i say its a good sale? what sort of price will they give me? will it be the price i insured it for?

if written off it will be CAT D uneconomicle to repair (cost to much
u would then have to buy the car back off them cost = £400
the the problem will be trying to get insurance for it
if the do insure it it will be valued at a quarter of the full value if not cat d
so if car was worth £2000 they would then value the car at £500 for insurance purposes
but u can take it to vosa for a test to remove the cat d it has to have been repaired propely
as i stated u would be better off getting a lump sum of the driver
and sort it ur self

cheers, but if it is written off, will i get back the money its insured for or will they give me a stupid amount?

if they write it off you will get the lowest possible price they can find a comparable car on the autotrader
as i said if its a 2002 this will be 2k a 2004 2.5k max
then you may get the option of keeping the car but tbh this is rare now so they will take your car you will get shite money and a claim on your file that WILL affect your next few years premiums ,....

My advise is get some written quotes from approved garages and hit the guy up for some £££ and then flog ya motor private and knock a bit off for the dent ...

the problem is if u told the how much u wanted it insured for they can fook u over
like this
ok u tell them the car is worth £5000
they tell u book price is £3500 thats all u get
now if u tell them the car is worth £2500
and the book price is £3500 all they will pay is £2500
or as low as they can pay u
it all depends where u bought it if u bought it private that changes the price
than if u bought it off a car dealership
they have u all ways m8
like i said before get a few prices
if the lowest works oput at £900
the the fell to give u £500 and u will get it done
saves going through the insurance saving him money in the long run
the fix it ur self

got a verbal quaote today as im not paying for written quatations. it will be around£900-£1000. the car is a '99 model and bought it private for 1200 but was worth about 1800 at the time.

Dont you people have scrap yards near your house I normally leave a phone number with my local yards for parts I need

If i need a bumper are tail lights etc when a car comes in with front end damage I get a call vice versa if I need a bonnet etc when one comes in with back end damage theres about 7 yards in my area I just ring them up and tell them what your after if they havent got the part the normally stick a little note on the wall for you so when the part comes in you need they give you a bell.

If you know back yard spayer you pick up stuff from the local yards and sand them down your self you can also save ££££ doing that.
