I finally got round to yanking out the old WiiFree and replaced it with a YAOSM 3.2 :)

All my backups are working fine but I've got a few games that I thought YAOSM would support but they're not booting.

Mario Kart for example is displaying a black screen with "There has been and error.....", another game wants to me upgrade the firmware (the game is PAL) I know it's safe for me to accept PAL upgrades on a PAL machine but where will that leave me with regards to my backups working? Will they still work if I upgrade to 3.3e, is there a way to p;lay the game without accepting the upgrade?

Cheers.

Yes updating will be 100% fine

As for mario kart - whats the full error?

Will the homebrew stuff still work?

The error just says "There has been a problem, press eject and switch off your Wii, consult your technical manual for further help"

I reckon it's a duff image.

I've had that before. Switched off the wii, switched it back on, cleaned the disc of fingerprints... (little gits!) and it worked. Also had a duff image to.
Also, is it set to PAL?
Just some thoughts.

You are fine to update with any game at the mo as no game yet contains the 3.3 update, there is a workaround to get homebrew to work with 3.3 now anyway.

AARGH!

After tidying everything up and screwing the Wii back together the fooking thing would only play originals!

So I stripped it back down expecting to find a trapped wire or maybe a broken solder joint on the chip but everything was ok, I then had alook at the motherboard and noticed that one of the trace pads has lifted from the board :(

Now I'm gonna have to solder directly to the D2B chip, something I'm not looking forward too. :(

whoops! bet you wished you'd never touched it now!

if its just 1 wire u could try scraping the track that goes to pad and solder there

but soldering to the chip legs aint hard

just take ur time

lol, yup, all this just to play Super Mario Galaxy - fooking kids, lol

I think I might just take the easy way out and buy one of those 'Free-Clips', the ones that just snap onto the D2B and they have an embedded PIC. I'm finding it hard to find a UK supplier so I'll probably end up with the one with the WiiKey built in.

My eyes aren't what they used to be mate, when I look at those chip legs all I see is fuzzy silver stuff :)

I really need to get myself to an optician.

Scraping the trace shouldnt be too hard mate, and give you alot of space each side rather than 1mm each side if you tried the IC legs.

I'll scrape the trace and give it a bash later today, if it fails then I'm off to buy a clip as I don't wanna ruin the chip.

m8, if i was you id connect str8 to the chip, take your time and itll be fine.
:proud:

I'm only going to solder the chip as a last option.

I'm gonna purchase a magnifying glass today and scrape the trace, wish me luck. :)

All sorted my sons Wii is now playing backups again :) :)

After writing the last post I found an old pair of specs in a drawer and used them as a magnifying glass, lol, i used a scalpel and scraped away the resin from the top of the track until it was nice and shiny, I then added a drop of Flux and my wire took 1st time, nice solid connection :)

Just need to screw the thing back together now:)

You see, scraping the trace does not involve IC legs mm apart. - If you fail - its fixable, IC legs on the Wii are not nice repairs.

A wee rub with the flux pen a tiny dab of solder and everything stuck as it should 1st time:)

Under the mag glass (old scratched pair of glasses, lol) those legs looked fooking huge. :)

I like the look of those new Wii-Clips, my mate has a D2B with the legs missing, I think I'll grab one of those wee things for him coz I am never going to try the dremel thing again, not after my last debacle. I didn't kill it or anything but I was terrified incase I used too much solder and in the end I didn't use enough, so everytime I reassembled the Wii the solder points broke :(
