usb boot

fitted sata card today, nearly all ready for first flashing attempt.

boot from usb not an option in bios, asrock k7s8x.

any ideas ?

you have asked this already, I have replied to your first thread.

sorry, thought by posting in pc and 360 forums would have doubled my chances in finding an answer.

have just looked in bios, i can disable booting from floppy, cd drive and hard drive and then enable an option to boot from another source if the three i disable dont boot, does that mean it would boot from usb ?
 
Boot up and press the 'hot-key' to get into the boot menu on the bios boot up screen.. on my pc it's F11, it should say on the bios boot up screen what to press for the 'boot menu'

Once in the boot-menu plug in the usb device and wait a few secs then ctrl-alt-del to reboot the pc, now press the hotkey again to go back to the boot menu and your usb device should be listed.
 
I find the best / safest way, is just to remove power from alll Disc/Hard Drives

It can only then boot from floppy/ USB and there is no chance of you dumping the f/w from one of your PC's optical drives :)

i have that motherboard in one of my computers and the option is there in the bios.
but only when the usb thumb drive is plugged in. remove it and the option disappears

now i can start to take my console apart, looks harder to do than the flash !

but i'll get there in the end.
