A friend asked me to take a look at his laptop, telling me that he had forgotten his bios password. No problem getting into the bios as it is the hard drive that is passworded.
Am I right in thinking that a replacement hdd would solve his problem and the hdd password would change from "set" to "clear" in the bios?.

The guy is a tinkerer and has to reformat his desktop practically on a monthly basis, lol. Wouldn't have thought that he has had time to put anything of value on the laptops' hard drive.

If the hard drive is locked using HDD level password (like xbox) then you will need the original motherboard to unlock it. If you want to stick in a different drive that should not be a problem.

Cheers mate. Think I will try and get hold of a cheapo first to make sure.
