Hi all,

This is probably one of the weirdest questions asked on here but does anybody know of a shop in the NE of England that sells hardo bread?

Hi mate, I don't know the N.E area well - but do some googling or speak to a few local people to find out where your areas Caribbean population do their specialist food shopping... and that's where you'll find the Caribbean goodies like hard-dough bread.

Hi,

There is no afro-carribean population in our town mate, I've seen a couple of africans but that's it, it's a paleface paradise.

I was thinking maybe Newcastle/Sunderland/the Boro. Any members from there know of any afro-carribean shop?

Have already googled and found some mail-order places but don't mind a 100 mile or so round trip to get some fresh hardo/cocoa bread and proper sweet potato's.

I hear what you're saying fella. thats one of the good things about living in multi-cultural, inner-city london.

Down here even our local big name supermarkets like asda and sainsburys have massive 'ethnic foods' sections where they sell everything from poland, carribean, asia, south america etc.

Good luck with your searching - how far is Leeds from you? would have thought you'd definitely be able to get sorted out there?

Birmingham has a number of Afro- Carribean shops. I am sure they must be listed in the Yellow pages and quick call might get you the info.

@ice2004 love your avatar and it goes well with your siggy but as bloke would you really want to use that siggy? lol

Have gave it some serious thought as a last resort Ice am down to me last loaf of hardo now, thanx for the link though, nice one.

Heyup ma mate,

The worst thing mate is the fooking best bakery is in Brum, it's up West Brom, hardo and cocoa from there is ace.

@Gargamel. Leeds is about a 140-150 round trip, might try york too. I used to run back and forth to Leicester regular until I lost my best mate. I know what you're saying about a multi-culture, I was in Beaumont Leys (Leics) tesco not long back and they had proper sweet 'tatas and patty's.

Cheers for the suggestions lads, my hunt continues..........

Good luck with your quest m8 I love me hardo bread too lol...

There's loads of places to buy where I live though.

What's that doughnut-shaped (torus) bread I tried from a travelling market that was in town one day?

Russian or something, honestly, it was more dense than depleted Uranium.

Quite nice with a bit soft cheese on though.
