Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Vista currently the seventh generation of windows?

1 Windows 1.01
2 Windows 2.03
3 Windows 3.11 etc
4 Windows 95a/b
5 Windows 98/SE/ME
6 Windows XP
7 Windows Vista
8 Windows 7

???

Vista is Windows 7 as far as i can see.

However to me it looks like Windows98 may have officially just been a reworked Windows 4 kernel, making Win95 + Win98 both Windows 4, sneaky buggers.

lol, so whatever happened to Windows 0 :)

XP came from the NT Stable

There was Business and Personal Versions in the past. Using a totally different core.

XP is Windows 5.1
Vista is 6.x

So Windows 7 is indeed windows seven but why is XP Windows 5.1 when there is already w1, w2, w3, w95 and w98!

I left out NT builds to keep things simple.

lol, yes but it's NOT windows 0 and there never was one.

I reckon win95 and win98 were based on the same kernel so these were both Windows 4

I wonder why they codenamed it Vienna?

There will be loads of "Goodnight Vienna" jokes kicking about when people find out it's crap.

Did anyone see the episode of 'The Money Programe' a few weeks ago when they did a special on Microsoft and Bill Gates, really good show, gave the full history of Mickeysoft.

Yeh I did, the show the came on the BBC?

I thought it was really interesting, it showed the full history of Microsoft as you quite rightly suggested. I thought one of the most interesting and funniest things about the program were how cool Bill Gates and his mates looked when they were young.

There were known as geeks, and they sure dressed up like geeks :)

As for Microsoft itself, it's given the world something huge and we should thanks them for that, because everyone in their life are going to use a Windows computer; whether you like it or not.

Did anyone hear the popular legend of how MS stole the windows gui idea from Apple? Apparently, the MS guys got a tour of Apples offices, and saw the idea for a windows point and click based graphical OS. They loved it so much they copied the idea, much to Apples consternation.

After Apple complained, it came out that a few years earlier, some of the Apple guys got a tour of the Rank Xerox offices, where they saw an idea for a graphical windows based point and click OS... They later tried to sue but were unsuccessful - I cant remember the exact reasons why though...
