Yesterday I took an old car I've had sitting here for months to the scrappies
Couldn't quite believe it, they gave me £172
It's only a few years ago you had to pay them to take them off your hands.
Makes you wonder what they get paid for scrap.

Its craziness ain't it mate i used to have a recovery truck and do a bit of tatting and we used to average about 80-90 quid a motor that was a year or so ago like but the last one i took was a shell and got £120 for that and the bloke was telling me they export them and get top dollar now.

metal has gone through the roof m8
we buy metal products (stud work) and it went up by 20% in January and going up again in July by 31% and again in December % not known and its not just that kinda metal either we also buy drywall screws and they go up 9.5% in August :(

it all mounts up and its taking its toll I can tell ya

I believe a lot of it goes to middle and far easts for all the record breaking skyscrapers and ferris wheels they're all building. Cheaper than forging new steel, but puts the global price of steel up - both new and recycled.

Copper price has been high for a couple of years but the global average was $4500 per metric ton for scrap last time I checked. Its suprising the amount of copper in a car's wiring loom.

its the same with all metals
i bought a new gold chain from a dealer about 5 years ago.
i paid £450 for a 4 and a half ounce chain.
paid around 3.60 a gram for this.
now the scrap value is 4.70 per gram.

Have to agree there mate, Even the precious metals are top £ at the moment. You can get the same if it were scrap value now, as a gold chain you may have bought 2 years ago.

2 years ago that chain may have cost you £200 for a quality second hand one, now if it broke in some way, maybe it snapped or a few links got crushed you will certainly still get £200 as scrap, the last year or two has been mental!!
