Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of a mobile phone with an 8.1-megapixel camera built in.
The C905 Cyber-shot also comes with a real camera flash and is designed to look like a digital camera rather than a phone.
Features such as image stabilisation, red-eye reduction and auto-focus face detection have been built in. It also boasts a 16x digital zoom.
Currently there is no phone on the market that includes such a powerful camera although Samsung is rumoured to be developing a camera phone with a similar-sized sensor.
"The C905 Cyber-shot has been developed to make us all better photographers. That means making it easier to take great shots and never missing that magic moment," said Sven Totté of Sony Ericsson.
Sony Ericsson has also announced the F305, a phone designed with gamers in mind. It includes motion-sensor technology that lets you control the game by using gestures.
There are ten-pin bowling and fishing games on the handset, which also has an optional powerpack that can be kept on your keyring to give you a boost if the phone's battery goes flat.
The screen is a two-inch 176 x 220 TFT display and it has a 2-megapixel camera built in.
"Gaming is no longer something you do on your own. It's about having fun with your friends and interacting with the game. We have used motion sensor technology before in our phones and integrating it into gameplay is a natural progression," said Totté.
The phones are expected to hit the market in the final quarter of 2008. No pricing information has yet been set, though this will depend on the operator and contract you sign up to.
Web User will be attending the launch event for the new handsets in London tonight and will bring you more information, including video footage, in due course.
