Sharon Osbourne has quit The X Factor after four years as a judge.

ITV said in a statement today: "Sharon Osbourne has decided to leave The X Factor after four fantastic years.

"ITV thanks her for her immense contribution to the show and for all her humour, compassion and energy.

"She has been a tremendous judge and mentor on the programme but we respect her wish to leave and wish her the very best with her future projects."

The news follows rumours Osbourne was seeking a £500,000 pay rise to take part in the fifth series.

Show producers are now short of time to find a replacement judge for this summer's series, according to The Sun.

Lulu has emerged as the bookies' favourite to replace Sharon Osbourne on The X Factor.

Ladbrokes have named the Scottish singer as the 2/1 favourite after a flurry of bets from punters. The firm had previously been accepting bets on her X Factor chances at 8/1.

Nick Weinberg, Ladbrokes' spokesman, said: "It's been one-way traffic for Lulu. In terms of the betting, she's got the X Factor."

American Idol judge Paula Abdul, who previously joined the X Factor panel as a guest in series three, is at 3/1, as is Kylie Minogue, the sister of current judge Dannii. Sharon's daughter Kelly is seen as her fourth most likely successor, with bets being taken at 4/1.

ITV announced that Osbourne had quit the talent series yesterday. However, Ladbrokes are offering odds of 5/6 on the fiery judge returning to the show.

Weinberg said: "We've lost track of the amount of times we've heard that Sharon's to quit. There's every chance it could be another stunt."

She's trying to get more money and it sounds like they have called her bluff. Good riddence:banana:

Didn't she want something like £1.5m for this series...? Fooking silly bitch, can't stick the pikey tw@t...!

Hope ITV stick with the decision this time, and don't let her crawl back in, or pull another poxy Louis Walsh stunt... He's another grade A muppet...!

Sorry..... /Rant

Why don't you just say what you feel mate lol

Sharon Osbourne told Simon Cowell to fire Dannii Minogue if he wanted her to stay as an X Factor judge.

Contrary to recent reports, Osbourne's former co-star and close friend Louis Walsh said that her decision to quit was not the result of a salary dispute. Instead, he revealed details of Sharon's shock ultimatum and criticised Cowell for not accepting her demand.

"It's not contracts or money, it's Dannii. They don't get on at all and she wasn't happy with the situation," Walsh told the Sunday Mirror. "Sharon has walked off, she's gone. Why didn't they give Dannii the boot instead?"

Walsh added that he has not yet signed up for the new series because he is "devastated" by Sharon's departure.

"I haven't signed yet but I am negotiating. It's a difficult situation," he explained. "Sharon is a great friend, I talk to her everyday. She is devastated and so am I. I have absolutely no relationship at all with Dannii. I have no idea how she is feeling about all of this because I simply do not talk to her.

"I am going to miss Sharon greatly. The show won't be the same. Sharon is very very upset about all this. She loves the show and everything about it."

Osbourne denied rumours of a feud with Minogue for most of the fourth series. However, she later publicly claimed that Dannii had been hired by Cowell for her looks rather than her contribution to the music industry.

Meanwhile, Minogue has accused Sharon of bullying her on the set of the show.

Simon Cowell is hoping that Mel B will agree to replace Sharon Osbourne on The X Factor.

The show's producers must sign a new judge within days after Osbourne announced she was quitting on Friday. Filming for the new series begins on June 12.

"Mel's in pole position to join the judging panel," a show source told the News of the World. "She's ideal and Simon Cowell is eager for her to join the team."

The former Spice Girl was one of Cowell's first choices for the judging panel before the show launched in 2004, but he eventually dropped her in favour of Osbourne.

I know mate, I really must make myself clearer on such things... It only leads to confusion...!!! :Biggrin2:

As for the latest revelations, if it's true that she wanted Minogue kicked off, and it's not after all about the money, then IMHO that's even worse... Who the fook does she think she is FFS...? Is she really that conceited to say it's me, or her...? Unbelievable...!

Good call... She's got a sharp tongue on her, so would fit right in...!

Cheryl Cole has replaced Sharon Osbourne on The X Factor.

The Girls Aloud star will join Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue on the judging panel for the upcoming series of the ITV1 talent search.

She said: "I’m so excited to be part of such a great show and although it’s scary joining a huge programme like The X Factor, it’s a massive honour to be following in the footsteps of Sharon Osbourne.

"The rest of the girls have said they’re right behind me, which is really important for me as it will be weird to be on the other side of the fence this time. So while we get started on the next album, it will be brilliant to be a judge on The X Factor."

John Kaye Cooper, ITV's controller of entertainment, said: "Cheryl is not only an amazingly successful, sassy and talented woman but, through her winning Popstars: The Rivals, has been through similar experiences to those hopefuls who want to take the X Factor crown."

Cole, 24, will join her fellow judges in London this week for the start of filming.

The X Factor returns to ITV1 later this summer.
