Just had another visit to the local, and had to go through more aggravation about using a trailer. I use a trailer because I carry equipment for work in the boot and would rather mess up the trailer than the car. I keep getting accuses of being a trades man and want to charge me of it, it house hold rubbish or garden waste and I do try and keep it separate.

Now tonight I was explained that this is a recycling center not a dump, yes I knew, and I did put the rubbish in the right bins. To add insult to injury I seen a large plastic bin that I wanted for a waterbutt and a camping gas bottle for camping. I did what I thought was the write thing by asking if I could use them (recycle) and I was refused.

After all the aggravation about it being a recycling center you are not allowed to use your initiative to reuse something that was put out for waste.

we should all just collect all the rubbish and dump it on the doorstep of the councilmen / MP / mayor / whichever f*cker is in charge.

that will teach them

It seems all these new rules regarding rubbish is EU directives. Unelected bodies telling us what to do.
I think it is called democracy.

Dont talk to me about recycling as me and the misses have gone all green (misses) and recycle the lot my cans (bulk of it), paper, cardboard, plastics even the veggie scraps go in my newly aquired compost bin, our back porch is like a recycling centre on its own. And guess what you got to recycle it and all the bastard bins are full 9 out of 10 times. They ask us to recycle and then cant be arsed picking the shit up on a regular basis. Bleedin nuggets, **** me at christmas we drove round for an hours tryin to get rid of the shit but everywhere was packed to the rafters so we drive round burning a hole in the ozone with the car trying to recycle and be green. Talk about hypocrisy cant win !!

No wonder there is so much fly tipping going on .What happened to the good old days when you could just take rubbish to a rubbish tip ? Now the guys that run them think they are little hitlers and jobsworth

Our recycling center is actually quite good and the workers are really helpful, the only thing that may piss me off is that now if you want to dump any rubble you have to apply for a permit to do it and it takes approx 10 days to get it and then it only lasts for 1 month. I assume its to stop trademen dumping all their rubble, but gemerally I am quite impressed with ours. That doesnt mean I agree with all this fortnightly bins thing....that just means I have to take my general waste to the dump myself.

Try and take rubble and you are made to feel like a criminal under interrogation, how much, were is it from what is it and are you trade, you should not allowed it.

I need to put some grass down for the kids to play on, I had to lift some of the concrete in the back (I never put it down) and lay turf, as I was on a budget I could afford both a skip and the turf. Is putting grass down not a green thing to do, were the kids to go without.

I do not agree with fly tipping, is this not making more people think of doing it.

Rant done, well for the moment.

No m8 I wasn't lol, if I was I would have replied negative to it. I was talking about the main recycling center at Brushlee. A bit out of the way but the best organised (imho)

got no quarms about our centre..

We had some household waste few weeks back.. didnt fit in the car so we borrowed a van from the local shop keeper up the road. went to get rid, explained the situtation and let us in no problem.. we had to make 3 trips in total and on the second and third visits he let us jump the queue :)

The recycling centre near me isn't too bad either. I did get interogated during my recent decorating job as I took all the bricks from when I knocked the chimney breast down. I used to go every morning on my way to work and the fill the car up again that night. I nearly filled the rubble skip single handedly :)

The bins is another story though.
Bolton council in their wisdom switched to fortnightly collections a couple of years ago.
Their solution to the problem of people accumilating 2 weeks worth of shite was to give everyone a green box for putting cans etc in.
The green box was a fraction of the size of the original bin yet had to hold the equivilent of its contents!
These things when emptied would then blow down the street along with the plastic milk bottles that had blown out before they were emptied.
The council had so many complaints and letters to the paper that the green boxes have now been replaced with burgandy bins.
We also have a full sized green bin for grass cuttings etc and are soon to be given a beige bin for paper and cardboard, which replaces a polythene bag which was also useless.
How much room do the council think I've got round the back of my house???
I've gone from 1 bin to 4 ffs
They have also switched back to weekly collections.

LOL.

In Oldham

1 x Black Bin 2 weekly
1 x Brown bin (full size) 2 weekly
2 x Small green container (for food waste) 1 weekly
1 x Nylon container (folds into itself for paper waste) We also have the green bag.. 2 weekly

and last but not least 1 x green waste wheely bin.. which coinicidently i have just filled by cutting half the front garden.. the rest i throw onto the railway embankment..

it pishes me off something rotten as only Chadderton and Shaw have to recycle the rest of the town dont have to because the councilors dont think these areas will recycle..

On that point i did enter a area a year or so ago and did see nappies and general rubbish in the black box which they used to put bottles in, now they have removed it and have 1 black bin for everything...

blue for papper brown for garden and green for rest lol
thank god i only have 3 every 2nd week

How is this good for the environment?
We used to get a dustcart every week so that's 4 a month
Now we get a rubbish cart twice a month, a recycling cart twice a month and a garden waste cart twice a month.

So we used to get 4 trucks a month; now we get 6 trucks a month but have food waste lying around for two weeks, millions of flies and smell. Don't make sense to me.

because this isnt about the atmosphere. its about waste being shoved in landfill..

I see your point though, Fix one problem to create another..

Recycling Tips

I had to add to this thread. I've got loads of grief from these council subcontractors that "govern" our waste. They filter through every bag to see what they can save and sell on. They have secondhand dealers buying stuff from them. When i asked for a couple of old fridge shelves that were being thrown away I was verbally threatened if I didn't give them money for them, I told them to take the money out of the 28" TV I had just given them. I called the local council, but they said, and I quote, "if we give all the stuff away then all the Car booters will be lining up at the gates taking the stuff away" mmmmmm isn't that recycling?
Another time I offered to take some household items from a wheelchair bound man to the skip for him, when they asked me what was in the bags I told them household stuff, from someone anbout to move house, I was then given my marching orders, it seems you cant take other peoples "refuse" to the skips, even if they are in a wheelchair!!!!!
Sad or what, i've loads more, but moaned enough

my local "recycleing centre" is a total an utter joke, This is the one in Fritzlands lane dagenham !!! I have a back problem caused from a spinal fracture in 2002 of L2/3... which left me unable to walk, I can now after alot of determination..
Anyway, I was down there with my brother and asked them how the hell I was meant to lift quite weighty stuff over a 2 foot wall...! as i couldnt do it on my own

There reply was, "its not my problem your disabled, bring someone with you to do it" I nearly dropped the bloke !

Also local council, "Barking and Dagenham" has decided in there wisdom, that if you want bulky items collected a little faster which used to be the standard time... you have to pay £15 ! but if you cant afford that, you have to wait 4 weeks ... 4 weeks ffs !!

well after the misses got told to wash out the cans ect also told to take off the lables on tins now all our rubbish goes in to black bags, No way we are going to wash tins before they are thrown out
