due to the bad weather we decided to take our 9 month old to the swimming baths,it being 1 oclock on a sunday i would have thought all the swimming pools would be open but when we arrived we were told that all the pools in the borough close at 11 30am for private parties to hire, this is a total fookin rip off as i work all week and when i am off i cant use what I PAY FOR!!!! just so they can make a profit.

try getting to a library after working hours.

Stinks mate.

Council run amenities should be open for public use and public use only.

The only time private functions should come into the equation are when it is the personal hire of dedicated function rooms etc, as that is the whole purpose of these rooms.

Swimming pools and sports halls should be open to the general public for the whole duration of the premises allocated opening hours.

Obviously at times you get afternoon mother toddler groups and council run training sessions, which is perfectly acceptable as that is also what these are for.

BUT private hire of the main arena in any council run amenity is just a joke.

Put in a formal complaint to your council, you will find they send you back a snotty letter if you are lucky. However once you have this letter pass it onto you local MP and then you get the nice reply. There funding comes from 2 ways, Council Tax and Central Goverment. personally dont have a problem with any religion, however in Manchester we have to swimming baths very close by, both are council funded 1 is open 7 days a week and is booked up for early morning swims by a certain religion, the other is only open 6 days and closed on there sabbath can I book this other pool for anything, the answer is NOPE why because they dont do private bookings. So we have a pool that is only for a certain religion that wont do private bookings for there own religion, so they book out the other pool.

I really dont have a problem with the people, just its crazy that a new sports facility was built for them and they cant book it and still block book the general pool down the road.

You lot must be mistaken, there is no way a goverment run body would have such a lack of consideration for hard working tax payers !! :roflmao:
