Please Help! Au Fix For Dreambox 500c

Hi

We have just acquired a dreambox 500c. It has not been used for about 5 weeks and needs Rom 7, 10 and 11. We have no idea how to FTP. In simple laymans terms can someone tell us how we do this. Have serial cable and have downloaded zip files for 7, 10 and 11. Also downloaded control centre for Dreambox 500???

you need it networked (crossover cable usually direct to pc) , if you only have a serial then you need to put on an image already fixed.

What's a crossover cable. Is it an ethernet cable. Won't it already have an image on from before. It was working 5 weeks ago.

It will have an image on it, but the ROMs will be out of date.

To update part of an image you need to be able to FTP the files from PC to DB, this requires a network connection (ethernet as you said) if direct from a PC then the cable needs to be a x over, if through a router / switch then straight.

The alternative idea is to reflash with a up to date image such as DW 2.1

Where do I find Dream Up. I looked on downloads and couldn't find it? I am still not sure what a crossover is? Thanks for your help.

There are 2 types of network cables.

The 1st and most common is a straight cable - this is used between router/hub/stitch to something else e.g. DM and PC with the former sitting in th middle.

The 2nd is the x over which is a network cable that as a direct link from one think to another e.g. PC to PC, ot PC to DM.

For the Tech answer there are 8 pairs of wires in the cable in a straight each end is configured the same way, in a x over the pairs are reversed

I think I read in a previuos thread you was useing Neutrino image before

if you decide to use DW 2.1 this is a Enigma image so will look and feel different to what you are used to

but still work and give you what you need

Just wondering (not upgraded yet as i'm too lazy) As from 2.0 i saw a feature to upgrade the image from the box itself. Is the new 2.1 image up on the server ready for the 2.0 image to drag down to flash itself, or have i imagined this option or gotten the wrong end of the stick?
