new maps for tomtom

my m8 got a tomtom of a guy and he wants to update the maps on it.

it is a tomtom one - 3rd edition (4N01.001) and has 512 memory built in. i have read through lots of forums and can only see instructions on how to put maps etc. onto memory cards but as this 1 does not have a m/c slot im abit stuck so any help would be good.

OK you need a USB cable, standard one end and small other end, the V3 should come with a cable. Connect the computer and TT together, wait for windows XP or Vista to say that it is a TT and then you should have a removable drive on your PC.
Note part way through this process the TT will show a screen which says something like "Do you want to connect to a computer Yes/No?" Click on the yes button on the TT screen.

You should now be able to drag and drop files onto the TT, from windows "My Computer"

Note the TT screen will show a flickering icon when data is transfered don't disconnect the TT while this happens or you will have corrupted data. The transfer using this method has lag.

Might I suggest a full backup of the TT flash memory before you start playing....
