Mobile Phones Poor signal strength at home , advise needed

Ee do wifi calling if the phone supports it and Virgin do the same through an app so I have heard again if the phone supports it. I know it wouldn't sort all of the different networks you have but may help a couple of you.

yeah but you use your home phone allowance when you use the Virgin app. Nothing comes off your mobile allowance

let us know as I know someone in same situ. multiple providers.

will do m8

Well I decided to order one and give it a go , one from China . It should be here in a couple of weeks. It comes with a booster repeater, outdoor aerial and an indoor aerial.
Hopefully this will solve the problem of low/no signal downstairs. I will let you know how I get on

Mate, buy a Netgear r7000, with merlin firmware it blazing wifi fast, and good coverage

Im on about mobile signal strength I think your on about wifi

I eventually received the signal booster and went to

Sitefinder Mobile Phone Base Station Database

To find were the nearest Three mast is. There's one about a mile up the road 25m tall so I just stuck the outdoor aerial outside on the window sill roughly pointing in the mask direction. The small signal booster box shows 3 bars whatever that means but the was an instant marked improvement.

My phone only shows a a small improvement on the signal strength but I can now actually send text and make calls without either the swirling then cannot send or calls breaking up.

My first thought is it's the actual positioning of the aerial to the correct mast that makes all the difference.
Mine was a cheap cheap shit version £23 so I would imagine a better made one would be a lot better.

Once I have the aerial installed I will let you know abit more

I was going to set it up but I have a fair distance to travel with the cable from the upstairs rear of the house to the downstairs front living room and I'm short with the cable that came with the booster.

luckily I already have one of these in a spares box;-

N Type Female Coupler | Maplin

but I need about 4-5m of cable with male / male connectors to extend the original cable. I also have a reel of good coax so is there an N male connector I can use and can I use the coax to make up an extension ?, something like a screw on like an F connector ?.
Basically something to extend it by about 4-5m

homebase should have the connector your looking for
or rs commponents have

Maplins also have the N connectors but do I just use coax or a different type of cable ?. The only reason I say that is eBay N cable male/male is about £25 which sounds awful dear

Following this as I also have diabolical cell phone signal in my static caravan and have been pondering upon what I can do for some time now.

Once I get a cable extension and wire it up I will let you know . Might get next week before I get chance. First impression are good

I bought some cable and some N type connectors. Problem now, how do they all go together all these bits were inside the connector But I can't figure out how they go together.

right well I managed to wire the lot up and threaded the cable across the loft (mast are at the back) and down the side of the internal soil pipe into the living room.

I then played around positioning the repeater and its antenna but then I noticed something really weird, if say I left my phone on the couch or on the side I got 2 bars and text would leave instantly. As soon as I even slide my hand under the phone the signal would drop from 2 bars to zero and text either take forever or the don't send.

Question is , can this be a phone problem or a crap version / flash ?

I spotted this;-

well I got reading into it abit more and I found this which gives a really good insight to it all;-

Antenna Selection Guide

I think the aerial that came with my kit was a 35dbi and by all accounts is incorrect for my needs. The higher the dbi the more precise the aerial positioning has to be , like a metal detector signal strength.
I'm going to dump the shitty aerial and go for a 12dbi which will give a bigger spread coverage width wise but a lesser distance.

There are 2 Three mast both within 2 miles of my property but in different directions (roughly 45 degrees away from each other) so hopefully the 12dbi yagi antenna will pick up a bit of both.
I've took a chance on this;-
17~21MHz 12dB 3G Yagi antenna with 1M N male Cable For booster/WIFI | eBay

make sure you check what MHZ and your provider coverage here ;-

Well my final conclusion;-

After trying 2 different aerials and not to mention the countless times I moved the aerial basically everywhere bar on the 80ft tree at the back it made no difference. I did at first think it was working but I was wrong.
I've tried different cable connections and still the same. The only thing I can think it could be is the cheap nasty chinese repeater I bought.

Someone might be able to tell me a good cheap repeater they use. If it's ok I will give it a go.

Three now do an app so the calls and texts go through your WiFi

I use ID Mobile which isn't covered by the app. The thing is , it's a pish poor signal in the house no matter what provider your on. I thought I'd give it a go thinking it might help all 5 of us in here

Well at last !, a provider that works at home Talk Mobile. Got the Talk sim today and 4 bars now showing on the phone. Text, data and calls all working fine and a good deal as well:-

£7.50 a month, sim only, 30 day

500 mins

5000 texts

2gb data
chuffed ! after weeks of no signal at home I eventually got there in the end. I think the £15 sim only is incredible 15gb of data !! that cannot be beaten
