+1 from me. Bought one for my missus birthday a couple of months ago, she loves it. My boy likes it as well so he's getting one for Christmas (bought a few weeks ago when it was on offer @ £99, even better bargain)

I bought my Mrs the Umi Emax decent phone for £120. The UMI Iron Pro is out for £115.


Another decent cheap one is the Bluboo Xtouch £120

This is what i was going to get for my Mrs before i bought the Umi Emax.

I usually try & buy from the European sites that some of these Chinese phone sellers have, less hassle if you have to send anything back, you don't pay import duty & things tend to arrive quicker.

That UMI looks the dogs.. I got a Huawei G7 about 6 months ago, its been superb!

Z1 compact and Z2. The Z1 compact is the best phone I've ever had I use it for work and they are pretty much indestructible but when the screen does go they're £20 and five minutes. Highly recommended.

Tried using his Hammer for satnav on the weekend when driving: not great, kept trying to reroute (like it lost gps signal) but he had it in his hand in the car, so no really clear view of the sky, maybe that was what caused it. Also, I can't find how to use HotKnot on my Iron! I prefer his Hammer to my Iron, tbh: feels more solid and it's a tough little fecker. Still, very happy with both of them

I have a Z1 compact that I don't use. I found the camera a bit disappointing compared with that on the Samsung S5 mini. But the Sony certainly has a nice feel to it, I may go back to it one day.

I think the camera is really good. Pretty sure they haven't changed it until now in the z5 so if you want a better camera I'd buy that or test it first in you're local phone shop.

TBH the camera isn't a deal-breaker- it's a phone after all, but as I had the S5 I thought I may as well have the best of both worlds.

What's the firmware like on the umi? I've got a HTC M8 at moment but quite like the look of the iron.

It came with Lollipop 5.1 and it's running build UMIIRON.V1.5, kernel 3.10.65+
Play Store pre installed and works perfetly. Hotknot is NOT available (its meant to be), might be on a different rom/build? I went from a HTC M7, and one thing that was very handy is that you can swap the buttons at the bottom to HTC layout, rather than Samsung layout! With newer builds you can use the buttons at the bottom of the bezel rather than the on-screen ones, but I saw some people complaining about 1.7 so I didn't try flashing it.
Eyescanner is a gimmick, I never use it now. Phone is really fast, lovely screen and you adjust to the size very quickly. I downloaded Chrome and use that rather than the inbuilt browser. I haven't played with it too much but I thnk the camera is ok, nothing special.
