At present, for fringe reception, I'm using a Triax TD110 dish in combination with an IBU and Technomate 5402 M1.

Just like others who enjoy this particular aspect of the hobby, I'm always looking out for ways of 'pulling in' some of the weaker sats or channels. My combination of stb and lnb is arguably the best one for this already and so my desire to upgrade my dish.

I would prefer to stay with the DiSEqC option and not to go for anything in excess of 1.2 metres and so my choice may be rather limited to say the least. In addition, it's rather a windy site.

I'm wondering how well maybe a Gibertini 1.05m dish might perform compared to my Triax, or possibly a Gibby 1.25m.

Id say the gibby 1.25m is too much for a diseqc motor, it not just the weight of the dish you have to worry about it the wind load created over the larger area too.

As Above the actual whole weight of the Gibertini 1.25m is far too much for a Diseqc motor, it may fair well ground mounted but high up would be better suited to a Polar mount and actuator combo.

Personally having owned Both the marginal increase on the 1.25m from the Triax 1.1m is just not worth the outlay, The Gibertini 104cm will perform very similar to your TD110 now.

I always believed that the next step up form the TD110 is either a Gibertini 1.5m or a channel master 1.8m this way you would notice the Gain increase a lot more

In order to 'reach' some of the most eastern satellite positions, unfortunately my dish needs to be high up and hence very visible to neighbours etc. I'm just a little concerned about going up to say a 1.5m dish, with regard to the present very restrictive planning regulations.

I remember about 10 years or so ago when I applied for planning permission for my little conservatory, some horrible little man came around and made a beeline for my small greenhouse. 'How long's this been here' and 'You should have had pp for this' etc etc. FFS, it's just a little greenhouse for growing tomatoes and suchlike. Why did he feel the need to be so officious and in control.

I definitely don't want any of his kind coming around here anytime soon.

What satellites are you struggling to get?

Those beyond 57east such as 62east. Until recently, I could get quite a stable lock on its 11.555H transponder but the package on this finished broadcasting from that position and the only channel that I could reliably get was ADEN LIVE on 11.176H. Now though, I can't seem to receive this channel at all any more despite
trying late yesterday evening with a clear sky and rather cold conditions.

You shouldn't have any problems with 11555H 28900 & 11594H 31000 on a 1.1 where you are if you have line of sight and your arc's OK, they're blowing in on a cheap 80cm & 'with' tree LoS problems - you certainly don't need a bigger dish for those - check your symbol rates & check if you've had tree growth or if the alignment's OK, maybe there's even new wifi/ wireless noise in the line of sight, an increasing problem.

Adin Live is not coming through here btw, but there is a tree problem here so with dvb-s2/8psk 3/4 & trees that might shove it under it's threshold & might clear in winter.

We routinely beat Gibertini 125s with Triax 1.1 installs around the North West, unless it's a blackspot, it all depends how well either are installed & not just getting bigger & bigger dishes, my mate just wiped the floor with a 1.1 installed by an aerial fitter with a td88 on the same roof- (until he was asked to sort the 1.1 out too), the idiot did so much damage to the roof, coax & other installs & even nicked ballast off the 88s NPRM & 3 other installs on the roof, wonder what size dish he'd think he'd need to do what the 1.1 ended up doing after it was sorted on beIN & the arc of over 70 east to 70 west.

The Gibi 1m's face is OK but they won't match or beat a 1.1 regardless of someone going round saying they will, unless another aerial fitter fitted the 1.1 it was measured against.

The Gibi 1.5s aren't a bad option to choose between the 1.2 & 1.8 Channel Masters (if it's not broadcast spec')- they don't suffer with that awful Gibi AZ/EL on the 1m/1.25s, they use a circular plate on the back as the support & they perform about right for their size & are pretty tough, they could do with a lower anchor point off the bottom of the feed arm to the rim (IMO) & don't like the ss nuts & bolts,

The Gibi polarmounts are very well made & have good QC IMO, but ultimately as poor a design as their AZ/ELs on the 1m/125s & need a mod or 2 to get the best out of them, like so many things in this business.

The 2 transponders on 62e - 11594h 31003 & 11555h 28900 just went fta with 40 Russian channels including several sports channels, even had some EPL on earlier, MTV Hits & Dance & VH1 are on there
