We've had an Hotpoint induction 4 ring hob for about 7 years but recently the I've noticed after a few minutes the power level drops away down to about 1 then after a little while it kicks back up to full, has anyone any idea's why ?.

This Hotpoint hob also has a boost ring which is brilliant hit boost button and it takes off. It's good for say Chinese or Indian cooking were you need an intense heat but I can't seem to find any induction gobs now with a boost hob. Does anyone know of a hob with a boost hob ?.

For cooking on a Wok I use a Domino Wok gas hob run from a bottle under the hob, it's only 300mm wide and after using gas you will never go back to electric.

have you ever used an induction hob . I thought I would only ever use gas but after using induction hob I don't think I would go back to gas

I just assumed they were just another form of electric hob but looking them up they are different, may give one a go when the current electric halogen hob goes kaput, pots are all cast iron or steel other than the cheap non stick frying pans anyway. Will still keep the gas Wok hob until I can compare. But if they no longer have boost buttons a gas hob must still beat it for a wok.

you can get a wok induction hob and most induction hobs have the boost feature

Have to agree with turner brown. We've always had gas but recently switched to induction (also put in a gas domino like the one pictured above) and now we would never go back. The only downside was that we had to replace a lot of pans as they weren't compatible, but not a big deal.

Bit of a daft question really have you bought a new set of pans recently?
Induction hobs are a little different from other electric hobs in that they transfer heat via magnetism. This enhances their efficiency and makes them safer to use, but it means that only pans made from ferrous material will work on them (ferrous means the material includes iron).

To check if your pan is composed of ferrous material, hold a fridge magnet to its bottom and see if it sticks. If it does, it will work on an induction hob. If your pan or pot is composed of ferrous material but the heating still doesn’t work, then the issue is with the hob itself. New hobs with power buttons on are still available. Google is your friend to help you with that problem. Good luck.

Yeah the pans are all induction, I'm beginning to think it's a wiring or power intake problem. It's like the hob lets it power up for a while then suddenly the power drops away to a low temp. If you turn the induction hob off then back on it fires up again for a short period then the power will drop low again then by magic it will suddenly fire back up again to full boost.

Could it be a cable problem from wall to hob ?. I cant remember the actual thickness I used but it wasn't small 13A cable if you know what I mean. I'd have to pop the oven out to take a look
