Recently two of my Rads TRVs have started to make a high pitch whistling noise, it get's to a point that it gets so annoying I have to turn the TRVs down on the effected RADS, which obviously cools the Rads down. What's causing this issue? could it be the TRV's that are faulty or is it something else.

my plumber installed these cheap TRVs when I had my RAD's upgraded.

Couple if things to consider.

Is it on the correct side of the radiator? Should be on the inlet side. It might be you need a higher quality one, some older models do that.

Also, avoid TRVs too close to the roomstat, they have a tendency to 'fight' each other so the TRV is continually 'hovering' slightly open.

thanks mate, I've got a portable wireless room stat in my bedroom and that the rad maing a whistling noise. i'll move it in the hallway to see if it makes a difference. Also the TRV that was put on all RADS three years ago were cheap ones the plumber installed. I'll upgrade the TRVs aswell. I belive they have all been instaled correctly as i havem't had a problem with any of them for the past three years. .

Could also be some crap stuck in them, when was the last time you had your boiler services and the system drained down and flushed?

Hey, I have the same problem, thought I had tinnitus for a second, it's only started doing it and it's driving me crazy.
Did you find a solution?
Ta.

If it plays a Christmas tune leave it well alone until the new year. ;)
