Underfloor heating/pipes

Howdy,

So we are now jumping from project to project and the Kitchen is on the radar next.
We are moving the kitchen around to a better design to open space and this means removing the current floor to ceiling radiator that is currently installed.

To be honest it does not do much.. but I have no space in my plans to add a new radiator.

So the question is, can I not just plumb in pipes (plastic or copper) under the floor using the pipes that exist for the current radiator in order to generate heat? Would it be as simple as just running the pipes without a pump etc (I cannot see why not).

At the worst it is going to heat the floor, which will be tiled. To be honest it doesn't need to heat the room up that much.

I am just wondering if this is a better solution than electric underfloor heating which I have always had issues with.

I could if required raise the floor and have it screeded (?) but this is probaly more expensive and overkill.

Help appreciated.

How I'll you regulate this heat through the pipes?.
 
I wasn't planning on regulating the heat. If it is on then it is on.
I would envisage that the flooring/tiles would absorb most of the heat. Currently the pipes run under the floor to the radiator we have and it's nicely warm. I am hoping the same would happen but on a larger scale?

Although I guess I could put some sort of regulator on the wall or in one of the cupboards?

If you are doing away with that radiator you will have to complete the flow and return loop to keep the water circulating?? or am I missing something??
 
This is why I am asking, I thought I could just take the radiator off and then connect some flexi pipe to join the pipes together, running it under the floor?

I cannot see any reason why it shouldn't work you are only completing that circuit with pipe distributed across the floor instead of a rad.
 
Yep. I will have a word with the builder once we decide to get a quote. Still finishing off the last project!
 
I would go for a proper kit mate . can be had for about £180 /250 this will give you a proper manifold and my include a second pump to take the strain of the pump in boiler
