Last night the kids bedroom tv started to turn itself off then back on again in a cycle about every few minutes. I looked in settings but there's nothing there then I read about a problem with capacitors wrong rated. Anyone else had this problem and done the D.I.Y fix ?. I no worries changing caps just wondered if it will cure it or not.

The TV is a T240HD and wasn't cheap as it doubles as a PC monitor

I have the tv open and the caps all look fine on the PSU board, no bulging. Could it possibly be the inverter transformer ?.

It's a long shot but I have seen sammy TVs have issues with infra red. I.e block other remotes or receive commands from other remotes. Is there a new device in the same room perhaps? Just a thought.

Another long shot.
Energy saving lightbulbs can play havoc with ir stuff

A little off topic but back when I was at cable there had been a load of Samsung TVs around the Huddersfield area (probably in other places too lol) that would block the signal to the cable box. If the TV was on the cable remote wouldn't work but if it was in standby the cable was fine. Really odd.

Good thinking with the energy saving bulbs also @IANB

Na , that's the easy option :) I'm always up for the cheap fix challenge

I don't know but I will find out. I'm a great believer in fixing rather than throwing and wasting money on buying new when not needed.

I've a Hyundai tv upstairs , it's still alive 9 years on. Sometimes a fault can be it can be simple fuse or a cap which I'm more than capable fixing I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar problem and solved it.

If it were the screen or mobo and I can't suss it with help then yes, into bin it goes but for a £9 transformer ? I'll give it a go.

You don't throw a kettle out everytime the fuse blows ?

I changed out the transformer and while I was at it I replaced the 4 caps and the TV's back up n running so no need to grab a bargain on Black Friday (as if),
Cost = £10
