Were on the hunt for a new washer dryer , We've have had an LG for 6 years but it's knackered and were wondering if to go with LG or a Bosch. I have a budget of £600 max and need an least 8kg/6kg (wash-dry).
I was leaning towards an LG purely as they offer full parts labour for 5 years and certain models which is normally a few hundred quid but were not sure if to go down the LG road again.

I would go for hotpoint if u have the money.ours is around 5 yrs now and its still pretty sound.

I have just moved into a new home and needed to buy a new washing machine and a dryer.
I got a 7kg 1400 spin digital display etc Beko from currys for £229 and a 7kg Hotpoint condenser dryer (no venting needed) from AO for £179 .

Beko have had lots of call backs just recently regarding parts failing so I would try and stay clear of them. Hot point or Bosch. Both are very good machines imaho.

I would go for a separate washer dryer but you can't swing a cat in here.I'm torn now with the Bosch or stick with the LG. I'm leaning towards the LG simply because of the offer of 5 years parts and labour no charges but the Bosch get's some good reviews,,Jesus

All the people I know with Bosch washing machines have very few issues. I myself have a second hand Bosch washer that is at least 20 years old now and all I have had to do to it is change the brushes In the motor. It is only a washer though and I agree that a separate washer dryer is the best option. If space is limiting though you have no idea choice.

I have a hotpoint just washing machine over 12years old that my mum donated to me she had it for a few years before me, iv never had a problem if i was to get another i would buy a hotpoint, i do hear beko are good

Well I've decided to have one more crack at repairing it and replace the bearings and gasket seal, total cost £25 for the parts, labour free. There's an internal leak that slowly gathers water in the bottom tray but only when it hits top spin and then there's fair bit of racket from the drum.

I know the leaks not any of the hoses or pump or door seals as they've all recently been replaced and checked while running so the only thing that's left to leak is the bearing/seal and the gasket.
I have had it apart numerous times so it doesn't faze me plus I changed out bearings with bearing press's before.

As it stands it will be going outside to die of a slow and rusty death so for the sake of £25 and the giving up of a Sunday I could potentially save myself around £500 on a new washer dryer so it's worth a bash.
I know one thing , I'll do some moaning !!

Well, here goes, , I'm off today so I am going to attempt this mammoth task of replacing the bearings in my washer. I have new bearings and new gasket and a couple of hoses I bought but never installed.

I'm planning on an all day job as I will be taking a shiteload of photo's and taping and numbering alot of the leads and cables.
I just hope I'm not here later on Washing Machines, Freezers, Cookers, TVs & more appliances online

I have the washer in bits but I discovered to major problems, 1) the front tub cover is fooked at the top like it's burned away but there only £28 to replace but the main problem is the rear bearing housing hole/socket The outside ring of the sealed bearing (the actual hole) has become worn and is now slightly bigger than the replacement bearing itself so the whole sealed bearing spins moves around instead of just inner ring on the bearing.
Do you think a spot weld round the outer of the sealed bearing unit to the washer tub would suffice ?

I decided to use a centre punch and hit the metal on the tub to slightly compress it onto the bearing outer case and it worked ! The bearings tighter than a sharks arse at a 100 fathoms.
It was just after that I noticed a firm on eBay selling a brand new boxed gen, LG replacement rear tub with bearings pre installed for £35. These retail everywhere for around £224 , it was the last one, an end of line stock so at that price I might as well replace the rear as well so I know the whole tub and bearings are brand spank.,
Then its a full rebuild with should take a couple of hours. Hopefully fingers crossed I should have it sorted for teatime.

not so fast Tonto !!,

took 3 hours to get the tubs together. they didn't line up so I left one in the cold outside and slightly heated the other up with a heat gun just enough for it to expand then with alot of persuasion pushed and screwed them together.
Gonna rebuild them after work tomorrow.

I managed to put the washer back together and all seems well. No leaks and noise has dropped 10 fold. I must admit it was a mammoth task far bigger than I expected but I'm a novice so............ its knackered anyway so you've nothing to lose
Tips,
I ran silicone on top of the gasket but I ran too much. This made the 2 tubs impossible to put back together. I had to remove it all which was an utter nut sack acke
Do not over tighten self tapping screws to the tub or your bulloxed,
And the biggest tips lots of photos and do some drawings were the screws go and tape the screws to the paper.
But the biggest , take your time, your not getting paid so there's
no need to rush,
