I need some help with getting a shower mixer fitted, firstly i got a guy up to fit a shower and when he came up he said he cant fit it and i would need a mixer (something to do with pressure) and to hire a plumber to fit it, what im wordering is do i need a a certain type of mixer or are they basicly the same, also any recommendations would be great

What type of shower? Electric or Power shower?

Do you have a cold water storage tank in your attic and a hot water cylinder in your hotpress,or are you on a combi system?

Do you have a combi boiler? if so i would look for a thermostatic mixer shower, a style you like the look of.

I have a combi boiler he said something about a tank in loft, he kept going on a bit a struggled to take it all in if I'm honest, he did say that is need a mixer and to get a plumber in to fit it for me,

Yep as lagigolo says a thermostatic mixer shower is what you need so,but what type of mixer was he trying to fit that wouldnt work?

Any idea of the hot water flow rate the combi supplies?

Not sure why you would have tank with a combi boiler. Do you have any mixer taps in the house, like kitchen sink or bathroom.

If so you can fit a mixer shower as its the same principle.

Do you have any existing pipework or a shower already?

Im no plumber but........
With todays easy fit plumbing products it should be a doddle to fit yourself, if you can cut drill and screw

It was a shower I wanted and he said I need to get a mixer as I couldn't fit a shower, I'm not sure about flow rate, but I need to have it flowing quite slow to keep the hot water coming from the tap hot

You might be able to swap your bath taps out for a tap/shower mixer unit. Provided its going over a bath.

Something doesn't sound right with your boiler, if you can't whack open the tap and it stays hot.

What boiler do you have, would make it easier for everybody.

I had that thought but as I was getting a shower not a mixer I thought go with a pro but as its a mixer I might just try it

If you have mixer elsewhere, then get a thermostatic type.

You only have to turn off your hot and cold feeds then connect your pipework.

If you need it flowing slow then I would not spend ridiculous money, as suggested above you could try simple bath mixer taps with shower connection, try get a thermostatic set if possible,

Other possible solution is fitting a mains fed storage tank in the attic and running an electric shower from it.

I stay in a rented housing association flat so can't do much, so f I get the thermo mixer I just take a connect two pipes from cold and hot below tap and that will go to the mixer and then that controls flow temp ect, no need for mains power

boiler

Yes, but i don't think your going to get it looking neat that way.

I would swap out bath taps for mixer one. Keep old taps so you can put them back when you leave. When i left my flat, they came round to check it and said it would be alright to leave the taps/mixer in place.

They do some nice bath/mixer units, then its only fixing the shower head onto the wall you have to do cosmetically.

Also as a real cheap/quick solution they do the plastic/rubber push on your taps type.

If you have a bathtub where you want your shower then something like this would be your best bet

That's all I really want just a way of getting washed without running a bath every time I'm looking at some YouTube vids to see if I can manage it myself, but replacing taps with mixer seems the best way

Pain in the a##e to fit mainly due to restricted access under the bath taps, but works pretty good...

Im looking at a vid on youtube seems simple enough, yes the access behind is very tight i dont even think it is possible without me moving the bath but im going to have a look and see

me m8 gave me a special tool (doesn't sound right lol)
