Just had bathroom re plastered / skimmed

Was not here when plasterer finished so didn't get to ask so thought I ask here.......how should the walls be prepared / sealed before painting and tiling, do I do a mist coat or PVA

Also any recommendations for tile adhesive and grout, heard that BAL products are pretty good and was also looking at this Dunlop Waterproof Wall Tile Adhesive 7.5kg | Screwfix.com

haven't worked in building trade for a while but we used to water down pva and put it all over area to be tiled

Make sure it's fully dried out - should lighten uniformly and feel a little dusty to the touch. As @deej01 says, PVA (about 3:1 with water) should seal it nicely for tiling. Go to a tile outlet (or builders merchant) and get the readymix tubs of adhesive for about £15 and powder grout to mix yourself for best results. For painting I just use B&Q 'shite-white' and slap a couple of coats on before top coat - then your expensive stuff covers more :)

Im goin to start tiling my bathroom (first timer) 4 meter sq area, 2 corners and round a sink there were tiles in before, iv got all tiles/adhesive of and sanded, will i have to seal the wall before i start

Ill do that tomorrow and start it sunday, iv watched a few vids of tiling tips and pitfalls, i have a run on my bath thats got me worried so ill start at the lowest point at the head of bath(thats level) the ill run the rest from that level around side and foot of bath

If you pin a batten to the wall along the length of the bath making sure the top is level with the first row of tiles you can tile above it. Once the adhesive has gone off remove the pins and gently tap the batten away. Now you can do your cuts down to the bath. Have a good measure to check you won't have any silly cuts (allowing for spacers) and checking how plumb the corners are. It's often easier to tile from a plumb centre-line and do cuts into corners.

I was thinking of doin exacty as you say or tryin to level the bath and work from that but i think the first way is the way to go

Is pva that glue you used back in the day at school the white stuff that drys clear

So pva bond adhesive sealer i need, im not keen on mixiing stuff up if i can buy it ready mixed and what is best to use, its gip rock walls im tiling

Small PVA diluted - you'll have to mix it yourself. Just give it a good swirl with a brush in a roller tray and slap it on. Couple of hours should be okay to tile. If you try to level up the bath you may find it stops draining properly!

I noticed that, i gave it a look stuck wood up and leveled it up n that

Got it half done just nees to do the corners, iv went through a lot of adhesive it drys up very quickly had to bin a full tub, also i thought all the tiles would be the same size but there are some a mm smaller or larger, im getting there

Yea iv learned my lesson lol

PVA is a no no these days, there's specific tile bonding agent that doesn't react with the adhesive.

In my experience, pva wont do much harm, but there is specific product.

Iv got it half done so to late for that, whats the best adhesive to use pre mixed, ill need more tomorrow

Avoid b&q, if you can get a discount, find a topps tiles and buy their own top fixx, or if theres a tilemania, get mapie.

If not try and source BAL, there will a few suppliers that do that, CTD etc.

Ill look about tomorrow for what you suggest, as that b&q crap is not worth the hassle, thanks
