I have a 40" samsung lcd tv that has developed a very fine vertical green/blue line on the screen its been happening a while but when tv was on for around 20 mins this line would go away and the screen would be perfect again but now its become a permanent resident on my screen doesn't go away anymore,is it fixable or is the screen on the way out?

if it used to vanish when warm, then this sounds like a faulty capacitor somewhere, but, with it not baing a major failure, would possible be one of the surface mount can type ones, and theres HUNDREDS of them, and theyre not as easy to visually diagnose as normal caps are

have you had the back off it at all m8?

no im not going to go near the back of it till after christmas in case i make it worse m8,but i will open it up when im allowed lol

ok just an update the tv now takes about an hour to come on in the mornings sometimes a bit longer,is it totally fu*ked now?

i would start by checking capacitors on the power board, easy to see and easy repair.

hopefully its straight forward cant afford to change the tv and dont want to end up with no tv

Right heres an update to the on going saga this week turned on tv standby light came on and that was it no tv left it for at least 6 hours wouldnt come on,then the next day turned on the tv came on after 5 mins which was quick compared to some days, i was away with work then for a few days and tried it there today but no joy wouldnt come on so i opened up the tv and took a few pic's

Is the cluster of capacitors gone? or is the tv just fooked?

Well the four big ones are fooked m8,can you not just get a new power board or are you good with an iron :)

I know the 4 big 1's are gone m8 ;) lol,i should have worded it differently, it should have said is it just the cluster thats gone or is the whole board gone?as you know m8 ive been up to my eyes in it the last few months and i only finished up last night and will be gone in 2 weeks so i needed this like a hole in the head lol

Hard to tell m8 I suppose it depends on how easy it is for you to swap out the capacitors against replacing the board,

And keep your head down out there m8 ;)

ill just change the 4 10v 1000uF capacitors and hopefully it will sort it just need a lend of a soldering iron now is all ;)

Right good news, tv is now working the green line was there when i started it up but is now gone again, but even if that comes back id get over that part, its wasnt my best soldering work as it wasnt the correct tip but im just delighted to have the tv working again, thanks to everyone for all their help

ok i start corrected the vertical line is still there but ill get over it, for 3 quid not a bad fix

Nice one m8 glad your sorted :)
